Now I know you're either lying or just incompetent. I went into iTunes and selected Electronic and deselected every other genre until that was the only one left (as you picture above shows). I then clicked "Next" to go to the artist page and found a whole bunch of artists I never heard of before (since I'm not into Electronic). There was no Taylor, Justin, Dre or any pop or rap artists listed AT ALL.

Sorry, I'm calling 100% BS on your claim that the only choices you were presented with are "Taylor Swift or Rihanna or Drake or Dr Dre".

You seem to be thinking that the artists in the For You section are going to change without you having taken that crucial final step, I am here to tell you they definitely will not.

Also: you do NOT have to "delete your entire library". Simply re-do this setup from the For You section (or the account section) and it will solve literally all of the problems you are having with the service.

You don't need to delete your library or do ANYTHING to try this out. I did this on my own system. I simply clicked Reset and started my selections over again (I took a screenshot of my old settings so I could revert them - took me all of 5 minutes to test your theory).

And I was never presented with Taylor, Justin or any others you claim were "your only choices". And since you clearly haven't finished your setup (as others have mentioned), then there's NOTHING you could possibly lose or screw up.

Why don't you click Next after picking Electronic, and show us a screenshot of all the bubbles with the artists listed. I really want to see your screen compared to mine.

The three artists I choose are the only ones I like (actually the only 3 that are left, after right clicking and clicking don't like). I spent about 5 minutes clicking don't like for all the ones that are not truly electronic, chillstep, etc. Notice only 3 were left in suggestions. If you are saying I should lie, and select artists anyway that i know i don't like, then should I select Taylor Swift as well?

So then I click for you section. Scrolled down past a few suggestions of things I don't like at all.

So now you're changing the definition of Electronic to exclude artists that are clearly within that genre? Exactly how narrow are you going to make your criteria so you can claim AM isn't listing anything that resembles electronic according to you? I Googled two (M83 which you claim is "definitely not electronic" and Caribou that you also claim is "definitely not electronic").

I am not angry, in the least. Merely trying to help you understand how the service works. It takes a combination of completing the setup, and THEN refining what is there with your tastes over time. You did these steps backwards, and the service has understandably never worked properly.

As for the debate over whether or not those artists belong in the Electronic category? I'm not the expert there. But you can definitely eliminate what's "off", leave the few you do like, and give it a great base to work off of.

You moved the goalpost here. First, it was "Dr. Dre and Rihanna" showing up in the Electronic section, now that we have proved that statement utterly false, the ones that actually are listed are "not electronic enough". That's fine. Enjoy Google Music. I was just trying to be helpful at first and really did not mean for this devolving into proving anyone right/wrong about their choice in streaming service.

I also mentioned (repeatedly) that I do not care which service you prefer. Its fine if the discovery in Google Music works better for you. It's not perfect in AM, and I actually prefer the Discovery Weekly playlist in Spotify over both approaches.

I really am just trying to explain how the service works, and that when used properly it is certainly capable of showing more than rap and pop.

I was able to replicate, in full, my favorite custom playlist from Spotify into Play. That is something I couldn't do with Amazon Prime Music. This is a very promising start to my trial and will be listening to the new Play playlist tomorrow morning at the gym.

Keep in mind that the stuff that shows in For You will not immediately change after you run the wizard again. I just did the same and I am showing all of the same stuff. Give it some time. Maybe force quit the app and wait a day. I believe they refresh this section daily on the backend. You should see drastic changes if you completed the wizard this time, and THEN your likes/dislikes can start to effect it.

Also, in the iOS 10 beta it is GREATLY improved, giving you more of an idea of "You listened to this, so we are showing you this" vs. "you said you liked this in the wizard so we are showing you this". Like it actually clarifies between the two.

Still, if your tastes are very specific, you might not find that AM is capable of showing you what you like. And its great that you have an alternative as a consumer!

I think in the beginning of my post, I clearly stated, not to offend anyone and this was purely my opinion. I even capitalized opinion.

But yeah, artists like Rameses B are indie and aren't exactly as big as the Rihanna's, etc. I think the most popular song he has was listened to only like 100,000 times. They still show up on Apple Music if you search for them directly. I guess thats' why I was so impressed with Google Music (again was my opinion). All the indie artists I love showed up, with very little intervention on my part. A few thumbs up, a few thumbs down and the selection was perfect. I tried to make the contrast to Apple Music, but I forgot the #1 rule in MR and got scalded for it.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

By the way, I installed iOS 10 and even Sierra haven't even tried iTunes or music yet. Scared of writing my thoughts here though. So hopefully it got better.

As a cord cutter I am happy to pay for a premium online service at a fraction of the cost of cable. I put my money where my mouth is and signed up for Youtube Red when it first launched. Same with Twitch Turbo, PBS Passport, and HBO Now during GoT season. I wouldn't sign up for Google's Music service directly, get the Youtube Red subscription which comes with the music service as a part of it.

Please don't hate on me, I know this isn't the best place to write this and this is JUST my opinion. But I have been with play music for a month now (actually I'm doing youtube red basically 9$/mos gets rid of ALL ads on youtube and also gives you the music subscription) and I really love it and much much than apple music which I've been since it started.

It feels nice that the suggestions are spot on. I don't get Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Drake, Justin Beiber and Dr Dre non stop in my suggestions. I cannot reiterate how many times I have said "not interested" and "dislike" on Rihanna and Taylor Swift and every single day they show up in my "for you" lists. I get that they are popular, but I thought these were supposed to be based off our preferences and your "likes". And yes, I went through the "choose your artist" thing in the beginning and the suggestions are getting worse. Now I'm getting Kanye. Keep in mind, I don't have a SINGLE pop song in my list.

I think for majority of people that love rap and I guess Apple's real target audience apple music rocks. But I think if your taste isn't Taylor, Justin or rap, then Apple Music is pretty bad and will only suggest what Apple thinks everyone should like.

Google Music suggested that BS in the beginning too, which I get since I didn't have a library or any "thumbs up", but after 1 time saying I can't stand Rihanna and adding more songs/liking in my library, I don't see that sh.. anymore.

I get the privacy issue and the reason google suggestions are so powerful (they are an aggregate of everyone else liking the songs that I like, etc). But honestly, at least I don't feel like Apple being in bed with Swift is being forced on me.

Again, MY OPINION. Wondering if anyone else feels the same.. or if there is anyone out there that isn't in love with rap and whatever genre that Swift switched to recently to make more money.

Great post, but my experience has been better with Apple Music in that once I do say 'not interested' I don't get those suggestions anymore. So i"m not sure why that isn't happening for you. I believe you, I just don't understand why it's happening.

I do think that what you've posted is VALUABLE information for Apple, and if they are reading these posts, they should definitely take note and act on the information that you've provided. You should reiterate your feelings to Apple directly too, and try to get it so someone as high as possible.

Most importantly though, and the main reason why I'm responding. Google can't be trusted. Everyone needs to take a step back and think about how each of these companies make their revenue. Apple is fundamentally a hardware vendor that is trying to pivot to services to enhance their hardware, and they've made it abundantly clear (and proven it with their actions) that they don't want our personal data and are very careful about maintaining their customers' privacy.

Google is the antithesis of that. Google is fundamentally a data collection business that creates hardware, software, services, etc. to try to collect as much data as possible in order to sell and present ads. According to an article in 2012, 96% of google's revenue is from selling ads, http://venturebeat.com/2012/01/29/google-advertising/.

In order for google to do what they do, they want access to as much of your private information as possible so that they can build a personal vita of who you are in order to present you with more personalized ads. That may seem innocuous, but we don't know the extent of what such data could be used for. The last thing on google's mind is your privacy.

Yes, Apple Music isn't perfect, but there's no way I'm giving google any more of my personal data.
