I agree. They should figure out how to make this a July phone and then do discounts over Christmas. That's just my 2 cents.

Google has been releasing the Nexus + Pixel phones every Fall for a decade now . Typically Oct / Nov. So they are sticking to thier annual release timeframe.
But I agree a summer release would be better. A few months after the big Samsung Galaxy S release, and a couple months before the iPhone release. So June or July would fit that.

Cameras and sensors in the top bezel, I'm sure people will complain about such a thick forehead, lol!
I think the bottom speaker will also be moved from the front to the bottom from what I've read.
I would be happy too, if this was the final product.

Also, the navigation bar looks better with it being thicker. The one in Android Q is too thin and it’s not centered on the Home screen, which really sets off my OCD. They should also have it hover above apps like the one in iOS does, not have a long strip behind it like it does now.

I'm excited for the Pixel 4 XL, but bringing back the forehead top bezel like the 2 XL, seems a step backward design wise. Why not do what the Note 10 renders show and what the Essential phone had, both with very minimal tiny dot cutouts in the center top of screen. To me those look very good, and don't take space like an ugly notch.
I think I'm okay with the presence of a forehead and chin in lieu of the notch or teardrop or hole punch. I think if it was done right, they could slim down the top and bottom a bit more.
I think it'd give the phone a bit more balance and symmetry.
A flat display like on the 3 XL in the 2 XL form, I think would work for me. And a headphone jack... And maybe drop the price down a bit, like by 200 that it'll likely drop after the holidays like they usually do.
I'm thinking 1100 maxed out though

The leaks seem to hint that it will be all forehead and no chin.
I'd have to see it in person to decide if that was a positive or negative thing. It would allow for a larger screen without a notch, but then the asymmetry would be possibly annoying.
I thought I saw a render that showed a whole slew of sensors across the top for Google Pixel edition of ‘FaceID’, thus precluding the ability to have small notch or cutout.
It looks the 4’s forehead might be roughly the same size as the one on the 2 XL:

Based on what some random unknown tipster thinks he saw and his rough idea.
I've kinda changed my opinion on foreheads, notches, and edge to edge screens. At a time I thought the perfect screen would be edge to edge. I never loved the notches, but I tolerated them. I disliked bezels. Now I'm at a point again where I'm fine with a forehead as long as it's not early iPhone-like. I can handle a forehead and actually prefer it to any sort of notch/cutout/hole etc. Sure, edge to edge screen looks the best but I don't really think a forehead is a deal breaker if the rest of the phone is a great experience.

I think the OP nailed it with their screen design. Easily the best design and success in screen real estate. Now the big question is long term pop up camera durability.
Symmetry is the key for me. I have no problem with bezels but for the love of god make them symmetrical. Don't make the bottom one thinner just because you can, instead take the opportunity to fill it with more battery, a kick ass speaker, or something.
Great couple last posts. I still the the iPhone X series does the best job from design standpoint. With that said, having the regular Pixel 3, I have absolutely no issues with the bezels. They're small enough where they're not that noticable. And I have zero false touches, which is home coming from the Galaxy S10+.
As long as they're not massive, I don't mind bezels. Especially if they're housing quality camera or speaker components. Although notches/hole punches on recent phones (3XL excluded!) have been more than OK with me.
Ultimately, it's the performance and features of a phone that matter the most. And I really don't understand people who would avoid buying a phone that meets their requirements because they don't like how the back looks. Especially something like a slight camera bump. I tend to use my phone, rather than play with myself looking at the back of it....
