I’m interested to see how much of a leap forward the Tensor G3 is. We heard the same about the G2 but it was mostly the same. But the G3 being on a smaller nm process should at the very least improve thermals and battery. It would be cool to see Google reach the same levels with the Tensor lineup as Apple has with their A chips.
But then it boils down to the OS running the device and iOS has proven to be more battery efficient vs Android. I don’t recall reading about an iPhone shutting off because the battery was mysteriously drained to 0%.
Android seems to monitor the device and user more than iOS. I recall an article where it was suggested to turn off 2 monitoring features to improve battery life on the Pixel phones.
Sometimes, it’s just not the hardware but the overall package which includes the OS.

For those of us that think that iOS is awful though, Stock Android is a great simple solution. I actually really like OneUI but my biggest gripe is how busy it is and being forced to default to the Samsung gallery app for uploading photos to social media.

The only thing that bothers me about the Pixel is Google themselves. Correct me if I’m wrong (anybody), but I have this perception of Google (possibly enforced by Apple) that they sell our data and that Andriod isn’t as secure as iOS.
I’m not sure I’m 100% comfortable buying a phone and giving Google access to my personal photos, passwords and so on. I could be wrong here since I don’t know much about the Pixel range, I’ve literally been advertised to try stock Android, an I like the look of the Pixel range.
Does the Pixel have anything like Samsungs Knox? And their secure folder application?

I agree. Once you are on the internet you are fair game no matter if it's an iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Have a look in Safari on an iPad or iPhone. There's a logging feature IIRC called ad perseverance. If you leave it enabled by default, that logs where you go and how Ads are tailored to your searches and viewing habits. So if Ads are tailored to your searches and views then someone is paying for that information. Who sells it if it's on an iPhone or iPad?
All these companies are pretty much the same. Yes you can disable user tracking on an iPhone or iPad but you can also do it on Android as well.

I think the Pixel’s still photography has generally been considered the best all around for the last few versions and I don’t really expect that to change.
That being said, as you mentioned, they have some ground to make up in the video realm. I’m one of those few that relies heavily on my phone for video (lots of video of sports specifically) so I’d welcome some improvements here.
Looking forward to seeing how the series 8 shakes out with regards to the G3 and what the Pixel pricing will be in my region this year.

For still photos, YES the Pixel 8 Pro will be better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, for sure. Now videos, that always goes to the iPhone, and I would think the 15PM will still beat the 8P in taking videos, but for portrait shots, the Pixel hands down the winner. The Pixel 8 is supposed to get an upgraded new camera sensor, Google wants it to remain the photo king.
As far as the Tensor 3 and it being better than the T2, I'm not holding my breath for it being a night and day upgrade, I think it will realistically just be a bit better, rumors 15% to 20% better, but hopefully it is better in the efficiency department, giving better battery life and running cooler.
I might actually go with the the smaller Pixel 8 this time, as it will finally also have the 120hz display, and I'm starting to get sick of these giant smartphones, they're not easy for one handed use, I wouldn't mind a more pocket friendly easier to hold phone, the Pixel 8 will have a 6.1" screen, down from the Pixel 7 6.3" display.

I’m actually thinking about cancelling my iphone 15 Pro Max pre-order and waiting too see what Google announce at the pixel event.

I was thinking about keeping my 14 Pro Max and maybe trying the Pixel 8 Pro alongside it, if i like what I see at the event. Theres no point me buying the 15 Pro Max and then the Pixel Pro 8, not when there isn’t much difference between my 14 Pro Max. I might as well put the iPhone money towards the pixel, especially if there’s good pre-order bonuses here in the UK.

You currently have the 14 PM? Dude there's zero reason to upgrade to the 15 PM it's practically the same phone.
A Pixel 8 Pro will be a true night and day difference for the better for you.

Yea I have a 14 Pro Max, I usually upgrade and give my older iPhone to a family member or friend. This time I’m thinking about getting the Pixel Pro 8 and keeping the 14 Pro Max until I’ve decided between them.

Good plan. I agree get the Pixel 8 Pro and keep the 14 PM for now as well.
But to be fair to the Pixel phone, You really need to give it time. I'm not sure if you've used Android before? But going from iOS to Android you can't just decide and one or two days it takes a couple weeks to really get comfortable with the switch between platforms.

i used the S23 Ultra for a while, but I never really experimented with it In terms of customisation. It was a little jarring to have two different app stores (Samsungs and Google Plat) along with other duplicate apps. The issue I found with it was apps would close/crash back to the Home Screen, not just once but a few times. I would then restart the S23 Ultra and it would be fine for a few days and then do the same again.
I really liked the camera on the S23 Ultra, mainly for the zoom and astrophotography, something the iPhone doesn’t have.
I‘m still an iOS fan, but I do feel like I’m missing something now that I’ve once again gone all in on iOS and left Android behind. A couple of friends who use Android (and are not apple fans 😬) told me I should try a Pixel because they are pure Android.

You and I sound a lot alike. I really do love my S23 Ultra, but again, the double apps is a bit jarring. For example, I've had a few issues with texts not being received and another member here mentioned that they had to switch to Samsung Messages instead of Google Messages. And I can't stand the double photo apps.
Several times I've considered going back to Apple just because it's simpler and I always know what I'm getting. I'm very intrigued by Google Pixels but my only long term worry is that Google seems to introduce new things and then kill them off.
But yeah, my fear is if I went back to Apple, I would just constantly be looking at the other side of the isle.

That's why I haven't gone back to Samsung in a very long time. I'm not a fan of the two different app stores and duplicate apps and there's almost too much going on with Samsung Galaxy phones. Plus the bloatware you can't permanently delete without rooting the phone or using ADB.
S23 Ultra does look like a beast and a super great phone. But it has so many extra features even for a nerd like me, it seems like overkiller almost too much.
That's kind of why I like the Google Pixel phones. They're much more minimalist more strip down and bloat free, a simple and smooth fluid UI.

We do sound very similar, it’s very off putting when there are 2 versions of apps, like you mentioned the double photos app, but then theres Microsoft’s apps too. I never had an issue with txts not being received to the S23 Ultra itself, but i never use to get notifications for them, so I wouldn’t know i had received a txt until i went into the app.
I’m very intrigued by the Google Pixel, I’m doing some research (mainly Youtube videos) and there seems to be a lot of videos parsing the cameras and Android itself.
I do think that once you have looked over the fence at Android it‘s difficult to go back to IOS in the same way, without feeling like you are missing out on something. For example, i still miss certain things about the S23 Ultra, the zoom on the camera being a big one and the quality of the photos it would take. Also simple things like being able to multitask (two apps open at the same time), more customisation with widgets and just things that the iPhone can’t do simply because Apple seem to stubborn to allow.

With Google Pixel do they get Android updates before anyone else? With Google being the ones that make Android it would make sense.

Pixel UI is the only Android skin I like. It looks great and it's fun to use. Feels like it was made for me.
I've been using the iPhone 14 PM and Pixel 7 Pro the last year. Just sold the 14 PM and will pick up the 15 PM on Friday.
I will probably replace the 7 Pro with the smaller 8. Will be nice with a smaller phone I think.
