I am considering buying an iPad Pro and making it my primary machine. However, there are a couple apps I have to use for work that are not available on iPad. My solution for this is to remote into my MacBook Pro that I’ll leave at home.

My question is, is there a way to wake the machine from sleep? If I’m away from home, how do I access the remote desktop if the computer is sleeping? I haven’t been able to figure out how to do this and I don’t want to have to leave my MacBook Pro open and running 24/7. Anyone know how to accomplish this?

Or is there a different remote desktop app I should use instead of Google?

Open and running, as in the screen on or the laptop being turned on? I remote into my Mac Mini and when it falls asleep, I can still log in by inputting my password to unlock my Mac Mini.

I recently switched to Jump though I preferred the format of Splashtop. I just didn’t want to pay a subscription fee

I just want to be able to leave my laptop closed and plugged in. I don’t think it would be good to have it running 24/7 with the screen on or off. Just want to be able to access the computer whenever I’m out and about. Currently I can only access when the laptop is on. I don’t need to **** it down but it will sleep and then I can’t access it.

My Mac Mini sleeps as well. With Jump, the Mac Mini wakes up and all I need to do is input my password and I have full access.

I'm sure that's the same with your laptop, that even if it sleeps, you'll be able to wake it up. Now, if you turn OFF your laptop, then I'm pretty sure you won't be able to access the info in there.

Thanks so much. I’ll check out Jump!

As long as the Mac is not off, but just in standby basically any remote desktop can wake it up. The big advantage of Jump Desktop is that, while not free, it is by far the best for iPad (and I have basically tried them all, teamviewer, google remote, parallel access, splashtop, anydesk, screens, vncviewer) with excellent support for the magic keyboard
