    New URL for Alphabet
    abc.xyz

Meh, probably more internal than external and won't change much for the public or Google brand
Will likely allow for more expansion into other areas without diluting the Google brand along the way

The name of a holding company is irrelevant. There are a number of companies that market themselves under a different name than their actual corporate name. Google will still be there, but Alphabet will handle other endeavors.

Bing remains a really stupid name. At least Alphabet implies a variety of products that make sense.

So legally was Google renamed Alphabet, and then a new company called Google was named as a subsidiary? Since the stock now reverts to Alphabet.

When a company gets too big and powerful they like to pretend to split themselves up to avoid anti-trust suits (which have been a joke in the US for a while) and presumably other minor annoyances (taxes?).

That is what I took from all of this also. They will now be able to venture into other areas, maybe not even computer or software, and put it under a different title/label/company name. Or bringing the Google brand down, if you will, if the company or product tanks.
