No. But there's a very real possibility they caught wind of what Apple was doing over the past year or so regarding ARKit (as it's hard to keep corporate secrets these days) and scrambled to put together a competing platform. The similarities are too abundant for it to be pure coincidence.Right? Google saw ARKIT and between June and now they were able to develop a fully functional AR Developer framework.
What exactly are those things?I'm just waiting for on-the-fly rotoscoping or difference-matting, allowing users to walk in front of their AR content.
Oh, awesome, I hope I can do these terms justice in a quick forum explanation. They're pretty cool. What exactly are those things?I'm just waiting for on-the-fly rotoscoping or difference-matting, allowing users to walk in front of their AR content.
AR is cool on the phone, but to really take off it's gotta be on glasses
Doesn't really matter..at this stage Google nor Apple will be doing anything truly innovative with AR till sometimes next year even if the tech is available now. S8 and pixel phones will have some AR software by end of year but still meaningless for now. We can all play Pokemon go for now.Google has Demo, not Kit. Looks like damage control.
Competition is good. Glad they start work on Kit.
And when I thought this was the iPhone 8's special feature..... LMAO![]()
Yep. Google has fantastic engineers. They’ve got the science part of the equation down. Their weakness is the art portion. Too many of their products are geek centered.Google didn't copy AR itself, but the implementation and packaging of AR. What Apple excels at is figuring out the logistics of taking current technology mainstream. We've seen this with Google Wallet faltering for 4 years until Apple came out with Apple Pay.

Will this allow us to AR our iPhones to look like iPhone 6+ ? Look, Ma! My iPhone is bending! Will this allow Android users to AR their phones to look like Note 7’s? Look, Ma! My phone’s on fire!
I'm on Android and iOS currently. So this is welcome news but I do wonder how it's going to compare against Apple's iteration of AR because there's going to be LG's implementation and Samsung's and Motorola's and HTC's and those of whatever Chinese upstarts that enter the fray. The flagships for these companies already differ widely in camera specs and mics and sensors and display specs to name just a few differences.
I don't know how much of a headache this will be for developers. I can already tell you Pokémon Go does not play equally smoothly over my various Android phones.
I won't be surprised that ARCore will become stagnant again.Did they announce a release date? I've seen them rush to market with half baked projects even based on rumors of what Apple was going to announce and show off videos of how it will work. Then it never shows up or take two years to come out or work right.
There's a reason they didn't show this when they showed their new android update.
I would never await a iPhone when the Note 8 is clearly superior.
Are you seriously comparing a phone that bends against a phone that catches fire?! GTFOH!Will this allow us to AR our iPhones to look like iPhone 6+ ? Look, Ma! My iPhone is bending!

That was a very poor example! No, I'm stating that both manufacturers can show a poor quality check at times, so sarcasm can work both ways. Thanks for playing.
The more all these companies try to stick their hand in everything, the more I think the next World War won't be between countries, but among these corporate giants.
it will still be one of the special features. will most likely be the most accurate phone for AR, since it will be able to measure the distance.
