Agreed and I must say, we're getting the better deal: the best of both worlds :D

android has everything baked in. "Google now" is faster , more features and better speech recongnition than siri. But this app gives ios users an insight into the power google has behind it.

It's really impressive that while Siri advertisements show a fake realtime usage (it's nowhere as fast as in these scenes), this Google Search is in fact as blazing fast as in the ad...

As a heavy Siri user, I've been using Google's voice search all day and I'm pretty impressed. I've always defended Siri but this blows it out of the water for simpler requests (not maps/reminder/alarm/etc related).

I think the strong point of Siri IMHO is that you can CAN set alarms and have other non browser functions.

I wonder, can Siri switch Wifi and Data on/off? That really sux on iOS

Finally - a voice recognition tool that recognises Scottish accents.

Gave up on Siri - quicker to type what I want than repeat myself 5 times to get no closer.

I guess maybe Siri and Maps work for the American accent and their road network as a GPS, but as flagship products in their iOS is is woeful for many other markets.

My edge towards an Android phone is getting closer...

Gave it a go, and it blows Siri out of the water. Step up your game, Siri. When Siri is (finally) taken out of beta, I'd love it to work locally and search as you speak, instead of bouncing data across servers

It seems to go to most popular searches. It recognise the words I say, but then make a different suggestion quite often.

Siri is not just a search tool.

How many of these things can Google Search do?

Image

...all of them (on Android)?

Google Search could do that years before Siri. Unfortunately due to the limited nature of iOS those functions probably won't exist in the iOS version of Google Search.

----------

I find it extremely amusing to see that Google produces higher quality Apps for iOS than it does for its own Android platform.

Have you ever owned an Android mate? You have no clue what you're talking about...

----------

It works well but it isn't a Siri competitor. There is some overlap, but Siri does some things Google search does not.

Only because of the limited nature of iOS. Google Search does a lot of things on Android that Siri on iOS does not.

All of them and more, soon enough.

Not exactly, because Apple won't let third party apps control these tasks... that's why there's never going to be a real Siri alternative on iOS, because it's simply not allowed by Apple.

that's cause Google is only for search, it doesn't do anything else...

But with a question like "what is..." all I want to do is search, so I should automatically get search results. The question "what is..." doesn't lend itself to anything besides a search (not setting a calendar event or sending a text). This is just telling me that Siri is not as intelligent as some people believe it to be.

----------

It would have happened already. Unless Apple finally opens up the API a bit more, it won't happen.

It hasn't happened yet, but now with For-stall gone, it very well could. We may witness a new age of iOS openness.

very true. For full google power you need an android phone

And that could be a reason why Apple could opened up and give full Android features on the iPhone. If they did, people would have no reason to change to an Android phone. If we keep getting tastes of Android like we are now, it could lead people to wondering how the full Android experience could be, perhaps causing them to switch. Myself, if Google voice search is so good, it leads me to wonder about how good the full experience could be.

Apple has nothing to lose, but everything to gain with allowing the complete Android experience on iOS. And I think Google does too considering they really don't make money off of selling hardware, but gain money by having more people use their services.

To be honest I can't see that happening. Apple are control freaks.

However I do wish it happens.

Perhaps, but it sounded like Forstall was the control freak. With the same person running the development of OS X and iOS, we could see more desktop-like features on iOS and less crippling.

Let's hope so. With Microsoft introducing their PRO Surface tablet which is "the real thing" and Android's cross-interactivity, Apple need to step up their game if they want to attract more than gadget lovers.

i think you made some valid points. But apple wont allow full google intergration

They've gone their own way with maps which is a huge feature baked into android. Apple want as much as they can for themselves they're not going to give it away to google.

I like it on my original iPad

What am I missing that everyone else is seeing. I don't really want a list of possible answers. Give me the best 'final' answer and speak it to me.

No reason iPhone 4 users or iPad 2 users shouldn't have Siri.
I think its a joke that the iPad mini has it, but the iPad 2 doesn't. Makes no sense.
Apple holding back so you will buy a new phone.

it's a half baked feature in the current state anyway so wouldn't worry about it too much
