Google today announced a new Google Shopping experience that has been updated to take advantage of artificial intelligence. Google Shopping has been rebuilt from the ground up with AI, pairing 45 billion product listings with Google Gemini AI models to provide a more personalized shopping experience.

The overhauled Google Shopping feature uses AI to show the most relevant products when someone searches for something to buy. Google will provide an AI-generated brief with top suggestions to consider when making a purchase, along with some recommendations.

Results will be organized into categories to provide an overview of different types of products, and there are dynamic filters that will let users narrow down results based on their preferences. Google has also added in the virtual try-on option and AR shopping tools, along with a "Deals" section for browsing personalized deals.

There is a new Google Shopping home page that has a personalized feed populated with suggestions based on user preference and past searches. Personalized results can be turned off by going to the Google Shopping menu and tapping on "Shopping preferences" at the bottom of the page.

The new Google Shopping website is rolling out now in the United States, but not all users will see it right away. Google says it will take a few weeks for it to be available to all U.S. users.

When I use google shopping I am looking usually for exact matches against specific items, I doubt most revenant matches (aka top suggestions) is as useful. Sounds like a AI variation of Google ads :D

And to power their data centers Google ordered a half dozen small modular nuclear reactors from start up Kairos. This comes after Microsoft committed to buying 20 years of electricity from Three Mile Island if restarted.

I've never actually shopped using Google shopping but now and then I had something in mind I was looking for but didn't know what was really available for such a thing nor what it would be called. Their search results for such a vague search sometimes helped me better know what existed and what it would be called. Then I'd normally go to Amazon to find one to buy. So I suppose enhancing with AI could do even better at such searches.

If the AI truly worked well and helped buyers to exactly what they are looking for, it would cost Google money. There would be fewer chances to show ads, and fewer chances to get buyers to click on promoted links.

Therefore we can be sure that the AI will not help consumers.

Yep .. same with Search

It's not in Googles financial interest to actually get you the best answer as quickly as possible

I read the comments here and realize how much Apple and Google users each live in a separate universe. Apple fans, as always, view Google services with disdain and distrust, while Google fans tend to view Apple services as dumbed-down and irrelevant.

Google Shopping serves multiple purposes, none of them beneficial to the consumer. First, Google gets paid for your clicks on those suggestions. Second, I'm sure they get a kickback when you actually buy something. Third, Google uses your shopping prefs to lure you into buying crap you didn't know you even wanted in some cases. Fourth, Google can sell your data to third parties (read your user agreement: you DID read it before agreeing, didn't you🤣🤣🤣?).

Such a small word, “No”. I feel like this calls for something bigger. Maybe “Nope”. Hang on, I have it. NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER EVEN IF THEY WERE THE LAST SHOPPING OUTLET ON EARTH.

Good to know about the changes. Expecting to see the rollout outside US soon.

It was useless before, now it will be 10x more useless. Google are “best” at marketing. Over the years of their “shopping” strip in search I just learned to save my favorite stores and visit them directly instead of googling some product I need. Google’s shopping is like buying jewelry from a swindler on the street for 10% more and with questionable authenticity than just visiting the real store in the near corner
