You know that is a lie!
:): And you'll certainly eat **** from Google honchos.
Because you are NOT able of accepting the truth!

Google lied, and the media, did not that.
Android is not open source. You can download it, that is IT.

Open source: of or relating to or being computer software for which the source code is freely available

No...polished like Android 2.2 vs. 1.0. I think my Droid had 2.0 when I got it, and just going from 2.0 to 2.1 to 2.2 they made huge strides. Google will get it right, and this is just another step towards that. Has iOS always had the polish that it has currently? (Asking honestly, I'm new to iPhone).

When exactly will Google "get it right"? Just like "someday" or "soon" Flash won't suck?

Apple already has it all nailed down. Usability. Updates. Complete ecosystem. It's all there. It was "right" a year ago. It was "right" when Ed Colligan was babbling about every iPhone owner switching to a Pre as soon as their contracts were up. Apple had this all figured out long ago. But that's what happens when you actually focus on the User Experience. Design and usability all fall neatly into place when you've got your priorities straight: forget about "open" or "closed" philosophies or abstract notions of "freedom"; just focus on what will delight and draw the user in, and make it easy and consistent.

Google = perpetual betas.

I can also see OEM's backing away from Android a bit, especially as WP7 starts to gain traction. Putting and maintaining Android on these handsets seems to require a reasonable amount of effort, certainly more than WP7 does. It's been worth it to this point as they can customise the devices to help them stand out in the market but if Google start significantly reducing their ability to do that....

It's certainly going to be interesting to see where this goes, Google have taken a pretty big gamble here and it remains to be seen if that gamble pays off.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, and I do think this is a boon for Windows and their mobile OS. Some manufacturers will likely start making WP7 handsets who might not have otherwise done so. Not every OEM wants to jump through hoops to curry special favor and treatment. Some people just want to know what the guidelines are and that everyone is playing the same game. That is Microsoft offers.

If I was Microsoft I would certainly be hitting up some of these companies with special earlybird licensing discounts to get the ball rolling.

I think having the source code available (open) is different to allowing things like customizing the phones look, installing applications which use certain system functions (like third party wifi tethering) and loading applications from other sources. I love how I can modify the whole look of my HTC Desire and install applications from websites without using the market place. I think 99% of the Android users dont care if the source code is available but love doing the other things I mentioned with the device being fully customizable.

Your description of why you like Android reminds me of why people used to like MySpace...

They should be able to do it with a couple of days - they probably could access to the earlier unofficial releases to test everything and do it.

Problem is providers don't care about devices that are already sold - they are not investing any money in anything that is already payed for.

And yes, this is not Android specific - the same story repeat right now with the windows mobile 7 update .... Apple made a smart decision that they didn't allow any providers to customize/cripple iOS.

This is why buying an apple product/products is an ongoing experience with continuing high levels of support, upgradability and the rest.

No android device offers that kind of continuity or experience. The android market is a total commodity where people essentially buy the same exact thing with relatively insignificant differences between them, and then buy whatever commodity is pitched to them when their contract is about to run out.

You are 100% right when you say that no Android handset maker cares about the customer who already owns one of their devices. Their only consideration is that they come up with the next commodity device to sell to someone else and they can worry about you down the road.

I know which one provides a better experience for me, and for most people buying a new phone every two years is not what it is about... Perhaps that will narrow the gap in terms of expense with iPhone versus Android De Jour in the long term, when people have some history and perspective.

Just a fad, guys.

It's getting people fired:

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...butes_to_departure_of_acer_nokia_lg_ceos.html

It's forced the competition to rethink their entire strategy:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...2-forces-Samsung-into-Galaxy-Tab-rethink.html

But it's just a fad.

Like iPods, Macs, and iPhones. They're all gone now. Right?

The iPad will quickly fade away just like they did. Ignore the record sales quarter-for-quarter (for years now.) Ignore the billions in revenue. Ignore the insane demand.

It's just illusion. Because Microsoft execs tell us so.

A website called APPLE insider claims that the CEOs left due to Apple. The most credible source for unbiased news I imagine.

And they're rethinking their PRICE POINT. Your exaggerations are unreal.

Why people listen to you is beyond me, there is no greater fanboy than you LTD.

Soo jump off of iOS's ship and rush and swim to Android's ship that is in the beginning stages to sink! lol .. I don't think so. I'm good.

there is a reason why *LTD* is on the ignore list of so many people.

Not seeing his post cost nothing from the board and one less thing to have to read threw. Blocking his post is an improvement to the boards.

AI and similar fansites aren't making up these stories. They simply reproduce reports. READ the article and let it sink in.

Apple is shaking up the entire industry with their iPad. They have enormous influence, and that's putting it mildly.

Yes, I'm a fanboy. A fanboy of superior User Experience. I can only in all honesty and good conscience limit my enthusiasm to ONE vendor, unfortunately: Apple. The rest is all junk. I can raise my hopes for everyone as much as I can, but the competition has continued to disappoint for quite a while now.

Oh well.

The Nokia/WP7 Phone Deal will be the end of Android, and a very serious challenge for iOS and RIM. I actually like WP7. The Nokia Deal will "light the fuse" so to speak. Very interesting times ahead. Very. :apple:

And Macs just work....

Not sure how that relates to the discussion here, but since you are at it:

No, Macs don't just work (every major software has bugs/problems/...) - but the Macs work compared to other OS platforms better for the common user. Since I switched to Mac I spend less and less time troubleshooting stuff that actually should just work. I was working with Windows since Win3.1 - during the days of Vista I made the switch MacOS and I am amazed how much less time I waste fixing/adjusting stuff. Just little example: my new wifi network printer took me less than one minute to setup on my macbook and iMac (just a couple of clicks), on the Thinkpad of my wife I spend over 1 hour (part if it was making the CD drive reappear since it suddenly decided to no longer show up and than >30min installing drivers and software which also spammed the program folders with tons of additional 'software' that she will never touch).

well, normally i would say that is is overall bad for the health of the industry.

but, at the same time, "hahaha **** yooouuuuuuuuu!!!!!"

You should have been around for the OS9 to OS X Switch that was a nightmare. As for taking an hour to install a driver I think you must have been doing something wrong. Takes like 10 seconds on my pc to set up a new printer.

Stop what?

this ain't gonna happen and you know it ;) it's more likely for iOS to loose market share in the tablet market and eventually be overhauled by android, just like it happened in the smartphone market.

As much as I don't want Android to die, it's demise is certainly possible; in reference to Windows Mobile 6.5. That said, a similar situation is possible for iOS and other operating systems as well.

So saying: 'it ain't gonna happen' is plain stupid. I wish it does not, but who knows?!

you got a point here!

but let me add this. open source projects never really die. someone could pick them up, fork them and so on

+1. I fix Windows desktops and servers for a living and anyone saying Windows is stable hasn't dealt with it on a large scale. I don't mind fixing Windows's crap each day though since it makes coming home to my mac that much better :)
