Hi,

I often need to translate Japanese to English and would love a R-click option in Chrome.

The attached screenshot I grabbed from some helpful webpage shows Google Translate as R-click Service on High Sierra but I can't find it on mine. Any idea how I can add it?

I tried on Safari too and it's not there as service either.

Or any other R-click translation alternative for Chrome (I mean, doesn't necessarily need to be Google Translate)

Thanks

Might help if you gave the web page you're referencing but I think what you have to do is create a Service yourself with Automator. I don't know of one that works but searching the internet you should be able to find a working example.

While this doesn't directly answer your question, I use and highly recommend the incredible Popclip which has a host of translation extensions, including Google Translate.

It's not free but just try living without it once you've started using it. It is arguably the handiest app installed on my Mac.

I also use Translate Tab which has a handy Popclip extension as well.

Or any other R-click translation alternative for Chrome (I mean, doesn't necessarily need to be Google Translate)

For mouseover Japanese translation in Chrome, the (free) Rikaikun extension is absolutely essential.

Thanks Brain and all.

I didn't want to give the page I referenced as first time poster in case it seemed like I was trying to promote. Anyway, here it is: https://filipmolcik.com/right-click-to-translate-with-google-translator/#comment-20

And yes, seems like a service (I tried but it's beyond my skill level)

Similar to the Safari solution already mentioned in this thread I found that Google Translate extension for Chrome is ideal and offers these options when text is highlighted:

- translation just pops up (how easy is that?)
- click the translate button that magically appears
- click the translate button permanently in the Chrome toolbar

Whichever of the above options happens depends how you set it up.

Thanks for Rikaikun tip (I already use it and it's great for single words) and Popclip. For now the G.Translate option solves my problem

Yes, that user whose page you linked to seems to be using Google's own Google Translate extension that you mentioned. It adds a right-click service. I also have it installed but PopClip/Translate Tab made me pretty much forget about it.

Everyone's needs are different.
