Interesting move Google but, if anything, it shows exactly why Apple's MacBook Neo is such a savvy move. This will only appeal to the Android/Chromebook diehards as an alternative to iPadOS.

That said - I do want an AI laptop. I use ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude now with Cowork and Codex. It's like having a tech superpower. I can't wait for my laptop to become more integrated. I know this will catch more than a few thumbs down votes, but AI is changing the way I use computers on a daily basis and I no longer want a barrier between the AI apps and my OS.

If this priced more than the Neo, this is DOA. I can run photoshop and lightroom classic on a Neo, the Android versions are trash.

There is an awful lot of society out there that may want to use AI, but has no interest in Photoshop or Lightroom classic… or could settle for web based alternatives of those types of things.

Always prudent for all of us to remember that our own interests are not necessarily everyone else’s.

People don’t buy a phone to use just ai features. In the same way, nobody is buying a computer just for ai. When ai is already in your pocket with you all the time, what’s the point?

Google, by far. They set the gold standard. It goes way beyond anything we ever imagined.

Don't get me wrong, Microsoft tries. They just aren't as good at it. Google is legendary.
Because Microsoft half asses every product that they make and they always have. Even the spyware.

We’re not doing Liquid Glass!
Does Liquid Glass.

These Mac users want a glowing Apple logo on the lid.
Creates glowbar.

We need a catchy name! Apple have the MacBook.
How about Googlebook?

Apple, getting rid of the glowing logo was their biggest mistake, now their laptops look boring now

Notice how Google mentions nothing about the technical details about their new laptop? I’m sure all of its AI features would not be possible without Google’s servers powering that AI.

Absolutely. I am hoping that xOS 27 makes a meaningful stride in this direction. Sadly, I will never be an audience for Google hardware products (although I love the software).

Google says it is working with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to make the first Googlebooks. The machines will be built with "premium craftsmanship and materials, coming in a variety of shapes and sizes."
With those partners, instead of Google designing this themselves, the Googlebooks absolutely will NOT be built with premium craftsmanship and materials. They will cheap out trying to undercut each other. Just like the Wintel market does.

Google copying Apple again. Apple has just recently released the Mac Neo. Soon to be built around Apple Intelligence…which itself is built around Google Gemini……

…..oh, wait

Another system powered by Intel that may be as performant, but will be nowhere near as efficient.
The entire industry: “We’re going to take on the MacBook Neo with literally the same things that were failing for years before the Neo was released. We’re sure it’ll be different this time though, because.”

All those vendors are the same group that currently make Chromebooks. If one or two offerings from any of the above mentioned vendors happens to be built with “premium craftsmanship and materials” it will certainly be priced higher than a Mac Neo with the same specs. There are current Chromebooks for sale now that are more expensive than a Mac Neo.
