Apple doesnt care about Privacy at all. Only profits.
who else you going to go to? Google 🤣 they are literally the king of data collection and selling. They also don't even have group E2EE rolled out on their RCS they keep trying to promote. If you want people to even consider changing you have to at least match what the competition offers and then offer more.

my child had a dentist appointment and I got a sms message to reply back when arrived... low and behold it is a issue sometimes with not getting messages or getting them delayed on their end or the same happening on the customer end.

I wonder if it is a failure of the carrier network... or a failure of the dentist's cloud-based messaging service or whatever.

I'm guessing your dentist is using some sort of messaging service like Podium. I doubt the dentist office is texting on an actual smartphones. (but I could be wrong)

🤔

While it's not a part of RCS standard (yet?), encryption can be enabled through the app as Google has done with their Messages app.

and it's being tested for group chats

Also known as, it’s incomplete. Apple is fully aware of the dynamics of the protocol. Google doesn’t even have all of its ducks in a row when it comes to chat.

People like to dunk on Apple, but they have chosen not to adopt RCS yet. They do however contribute heavily to actual standards like USB, Qi, Bluetooth, Matter and other initiatives.

I DO want USB-C. I'm tired of having to carry around Lightning cables when everything else I have uses USB-C.

Thunderbolt is overkill for charging a keyboard, mouse, and even most use-cases for an iPhone.
"tired" of having to carry around lightning cables?

I'll bet you didn't tire of carrying MicroUSB for a few years until USB-C became more prevalent though ;)

And tired ... like lightning cable is 'heavy' or 'exhausting' vs just simply annoyed or frustrated. I think the latter two words are better used here or more akin to what you mean.

And I never stated ANYTHING about using Thunderbolt for charging a keyboard or Mouse. I stated using for an iPhone Pro model in facilitating using ProRes Video editing or ProRAW picture editing. ProRAW can be ok for editing say 100/1000 photos over USB3.1/3.2 protocol _ just make sure you have the RIGHT USB-C cable that supports that btw, while 25+ ProRES video's you'll be VERY happy with a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable connection and spec.

BTW using a Thunderbolt3/4 cable means you never have to worry about having the wring USB-C cable for the USB spec of your phone or other device!

Many android phones use USB-C port but most use 3.1 speed or 3.2 and some still use USB2.0 speeds!!!

So again the PORT is not enough for all use cases. And in time you'll be JUST as annoyed and frustrated at the spec confusion soon enough as your device list grows or changes and you forget to change out such cables to support new devices.

It is bad for the consumer when large corporations like Apple refuse such a simple fix in the name of profits. Do I blame them? I can't say that I do, it makes sense that Apple doesn't have any interest in fixing texting. But at the same time, I can't get behind something that ultimately only hurts the consumer, and this does.

Texting iOS to Android is horrible but it doesn't have to be that way, and it shouldn't.
i use MacOS, my wife uses Windows, i can't share KeyNote, Numbers files with here, there is no reason why Apple can't make KeyNote and Numbers programs for Windows.
the list is endless.

Do you honestly believe that is why they don't adopt it? Truly? You don't have to think too hard on this one.
Google didn't have a good messaging app for like 10 years, suddenly now Google wants Apple to ditch iMessages which has been around for like 15 years and start using technology created by Google ?
Why would Apple do that ?
And based on Google's history they will kill google messenger using RCS and start using new technology in few months

Apple users would be pissed to find out that their messaging with people other than Apple products is a much better experience? Wrong.

Android has like 70% market share. It isn't going anywhere.
most people use third party messaging services, i would love to see the numbers, no of iPhone users sending messages to Android users using SMS will be like 0.01%.
Google wants Apple users data, that's the plan.

I think the EU would eventually force messaging interoperability with their Digital Markets Act to make things fair for everyone!! It's not about Apple vs Android, it's about bringing people together! 😁
and what next all mobile devices should use same OS developed by EU ?
bringing people together ?

You couldn't be more wrong.

The US is behind everyone and still relies primarily on SMS for Android users.

Apple wont implement RCS because they will want consumers to use Apple devices to communicate with one another, they do not want consumers using android mobile phones to talk to their Apple customers. In Apple's mind, if you want 'flawless' messaging, consumers need to go Apple to Apple and not Apple to Android. Basically meaning Apple want android owners to ditch their android phone and purchase an Apple one.
you know there are apps like What's App, WeChat that people can use to communicate with people who have friends on Android platforms, i use them, it is awesome, you should try it, i have been doing this for like 5 years now.

That's the theory.

But while we're just talking about Apple and Google here... I'm curious to know how the other platforms will handle this new EU law.

If all messaging platforms must interoperate with every other messaging platform... that means:

Facebook Messenger must interoperate with Telegram
Signal must interoperate with WhatsApp
Instagram DMs must interoperate with Twitter DMs
WeChat must interoperate with Snapchat
Slack must interoperate with Microsoft Teams
etc...

And they all have to interoperate with each other, too.

"EU lawmakers have agreed that the major messaging apps available in Europe will have to “open up and interoperate with smaller messaging platforms.” In other words, Europe wants an iMessage or WhatsApp user to be able to send messages to a Signal user, or any other combination of apps you can think of."

I don't even know how that's gonna be possible.

BTW... we haven't even mentioned any encryption/security issues yet.

It's gonna be something to watch.

👀
Law makers who doesn't know **** about technology should not make laws.

Yes there is. Because companies fence off valuable features from competitors. No surprise.

Example: Apple can’t let you natively write to MS formatted disks, other than FAT32.

There are workarounds in Terminal I believe.

Why don't you use other messengers like What'sApp, Telegram and many more why would you like to destroy iMessage for that...
RCS has exactly the same security and privacy protocol and technologies as SMS/MMS...
and considering the amount of data that it can carry, it's a big security risk...
Read my post, when you have a 89 year old grand father that can barely work the phone and now introduce a new app is pretty much impossible not to mention some people just don’t want to hassle with using multiple messaging apps.

Funny how you only quoted half of my post. A simple google search will show you definite security issues with RCS that Apple might not want to get involved with.

Doesn't matter who invented it. End-to-end encryption can occur via RCS, and neither Apple nor Google nor Carriers would have access to your messages.

Apple insisting on sending messages via SMS isn't what a Privacy-concerned company would do.

I think it is pretty commonly understood to most users (that care about security) that the blue bubble means you are encrypted via apple protocols and the green means it is open.

Do 89 year old grandfathers that can barely work the phone care about higher resolution photos and cross platform emoji reactions?

All these people crying about encryption forget one important problem with Apple's current offering: It doesn't "just work".

Imessage doesn't work reliably when transitioning between LTE and WiFi. Communications have to be reliable before we start worrying about encryption. This is before we even get into the problems caused by a lack of RCS support.

But even if it really was an issue, supporting RCS doesn't change the functionality of Imessage at all; it's an entirely separate protocol.
