Google is actually saying that you can't install adblockers of any kind. Google and security? Give me a break. Less secure you are, more money google makes.

I don't use Google Chrome as a security policy for myself. And Ad-Block runs on Safari, so F Chrome.

All they're saying is that they're no longer allowing developers to host their Chrome extensions anywhere else but the webstore. Takes away a revenue stream for those developers, and makes Chrome less popular with Mac users.

Use Chrome as a secondary browser. I believe Disconnect is the only extension I didn't get off the google store. Don't use chrome that often anyhow.

Really? Hulu is flash based? Wow!!!!

I am totally amazed that a company trying to make money off a product would use flash in their product.

----------

Thank goodness I have yet to run into any of these. I guess I wish the IRS would use flash. THat way I could fail to pay my taxes and blame them for using Flash. :D

Yeah, the site still uses Flash. Not the same thing, but until recently Netflix used Silver light. Of course the app situation is different, but OS X has no app.

A "walled garden" for OSX, Windows, and Chromebooks?

Enjoy your ads, folks!

AdBlock is on the Chrome Store.

The title of this article makes it sound like Google's targeting OS X Chrome users with a handicap. It's just a security measure, and there are endless examples of similar practices from many kinds companies.

I don’t know if I’d call the title “linkbait”, but it’s close. Keep it classy, MacRumors.

Not if you can read it does - I read it as it is, that Google are applying the policy they've had in action for Windows machines for quite a few months now to OS X too. We used to be able to self host Chrome extensions, thats going to be impossible soon and Google will want to host them.

If they can pull it from the Play Store, they can pull it from the Chrome Store.

They could, but they haven't. And there's no reason to assume they will given that they've left it on there for as long as they have.

ABC.com if you want to watch their shows online.

Well, I don't. If I ever thought I did, the flash thing killed it instantly. I refuse to let flash anywhere near my devices. I won't even put chrome on because I do not want to be tempted by the evil flash.

(somewhat tongue in cheek, but seriously no flash on my devices, ever)

So this is all based on a conspiracy theory that they'll soon be doing something that they have no signs of doing?

Nope. Based on stuff like this:
http://www.businessinsider.com/goog...by-paying-adblock-plus-to-show-its-ads-2013-8

Now we have even better uBlock, adguard, etc. Soon there will be even more. You really think google will pay all of them to quit blocking ads?

If they will, I'm gonna try to build an adblocker myself. Mb they will pay me as well :D

The recent added moderation levels to the Play Store, and now these Chrome extension restrictions kind of implies that Apple was right and Google was wrong in terms of an "open platform".

Don't get me wrong, I sometimes also feel that Apple is too restrictive, but not this time.

Yes. Over a billion people.

As I have stated in prior posts, this is just SAD. Really, when Apple is the top or second selling computer, phone, tablet, and TV device, why would people still insist on Flash. They are missing out on a huge market of people. And Adobe does not even support the stinker, they killed it. People should really upgrade to current technology. But I understand, I am sure there are people out there still using rotary phones, TV with dials, VHS, Beta, CDs, DVDs, etc. I am probably closer to the bleeding edge than most of those billion people you are referring to.

Adobe still fully supports Flash and it's regularly updated, usually once a month. Some sites I use rely on Flash and I don't particularly care that they do. I always keep up to date with the latest version and have never had the security of one of my systems compromised because of a Flash player vulnerability.

And people do not insist on Flash, but content creators & services require that people have Flash in order to view their content, so people install it because they need to.

It's really not a big deal. If you have your faith in HTML5 and think that there are no security vulnerabilities in web browsers then I am not sure what to say to you.

What are you talking about? They just recently started beta testing version 18.

The version of AdBlock Plus for Safari sucks in comparison to the Chrome and Firefox versions because of all of Apple's limitations on extensions.

So still based on nothing? Seriously, there's no reason to assume the worst.

FVD Video downloader. Try out that extension on Chrome, try it out on other browsers. Chrome version can't download from youtube, but opera/firefox versions can. Older versions of the same extension for chrome could download from youtube.

Google is paying adbp for not blocking it's ads. And a ton of money. How about uBlock? AdGuard? And 10 other extensions? Are you really so sure google will just pay up a ton of money, or simply block those extensions.

And it's their right to do so. So I don't consider this as nothing. Google up googles policy with extensions in recent years, you will see a lot of obstacles for developers. Google is trying to achieve same thing apple has on iOS. Complete and utter control over their software. And they will do just that.

The fact that somebody made a Chrome extension that doesn't work as well as a Firefox one is no indication of some grand conspiracy. It's also no indication that they're going to be removing AdBlock from their site. Once again, it's based on assumptions.

And yet I'm in a discussion with a guy who is complaining about the limitations of extensions in the Chrome Store.
