Battery life is the only important metric for me. My 42mm Huawei has 7 day battery life and all the features of the Apple watch and Pixel watch. I will never go back to sub 7-day watch. One less thing to worry about and I hate being a slave to a charger.

Exactly why my last two watches have been Garmins. True, they might lack some of the functionality of other watches, but for 7+ day battery life, I'm fine with what they give me.

Goodness gracious. I’d be disappointed if I pulled that out of a Christmas cracker. Unbelievable. Is it April 1st?

The pixel reminds me of the cheap swatch watches from back in the days....
Maybe you can also use the same guard?

Putting aside the hardware - which I think is a bit cheap-looking (see the seams down the side of the moulded watch band?) - the software is all Google. And by that, I mean it's badly-written. When he finishes the ECG it says, "Data collected". That's not friendly; it's pedestrian, it's cheap, it's written by a product manager who thinks like a robot instead of a human. It also reinforces the idea that Google are just out to collect your data.

Two simple words that Google didn't put any thought into.

Remember that great animation at the beginning of an Apple announcement (maybe a WWDC?) where a black dot moves around and stretches and changes into multiple dots, and the text appears saying they put a lot of thought into their products and choose the one idea that they think will be done great? That's the opposite of Google. They don't think; they just do it, and see what works. It wastes resources, time, and really annoys customers who buy into their stuff.

Personally I don’t like the round version but a lot of people do, so, bottom line is that competition is a good thing!
Does the Google watch actually work with an iPhone? I assume not

Seems like a good v1 attempt by Google.

The bar for smartwatch entry over in Androidville is very low (unless you don’t mind Samsungware) - basically Google just had to make sure the Pixel Watch v1 didn’t suck. Based on the reviews so far it appears they cleared that low bar and it’ll probably do okay for them.

Have to say I love the circular design, despite the downsides for UI display - if Apple offered a circular version at say a little larger I’d totally get it instead.

Instead you’ve got Chinese spyware on your wrist…

On a serious note, if I needed a smartwatch with 7 day battery life I’d go with Garmin.

I watched another YouTube video that stated it wasn't compatible with an iPhone. This review compared it to some FitBits and the takeaway was that the Google Watch wasn't adding too much more over the older FitBits. Well, if you consider restricting it to just Android "adding" a new feature then, yay!

THIS. Google bails on projects 4, 5 years down the line. It's one thing if it's software... But Google's history of bailing makes me very hesitant to invest in any of their hardware.
But given that many people upgrade their smartwatches every 1-2 years, is that really a problem at this point?

You don’t need a readiness score to know how much you can push yourself. I have the garmin forerunner 955 and the readiness score comes free and standard yet I never use it I simply wake up in every morning, drink 8 oz of water, and about 30 minutes later see how I feel for a workout.

People becoming too dependent on tech will be hopeless the day their watch breaks
