Rounded design sounds great and looks great, but it's just so bad for usability unless you're really not using a lot of the smartwatch features. Any time you want to look at text, it's a PITA. Of course, not everyone uses their watch in that way. Still I think it's people clinging to the past.

True, a round smartwatch sucks. Google should make it square if they won't copy Apple's rectangular Watch. Round is good for a traditional watch with some smartwatch features.

And people living to complain about this-n-that. Because it makes them feel better.

Imitating an already great company and a particular product is total flattery. However, in this case, like we all well know with Samy et al, copy in this case is sheer a rip-off and will certainly fail. Talk about being last to the dance! Typical Google though as they had to try

It’s safe to say, based on historical trends… Google, Microsoft & Samsung haven’t an original idea between them.
If you ignore all the unique things they've all tried, then sure. You may not like their products, but you can't say they don't try original things (without lying, of course).

How do you jump to the conclusion that this is a ripoff? It's not like Apple was the first company to launch a smartwatch.

A round watch complicates watch band attachment. You either have dog ears to attach the band with a pin or it's molded into the body of the watch, thus not replaceable.

I bought a Speidel Twist-O-Flex for my first AW 3, which is still compatible with my AW 6, lowering my net total cost of ownership.

Most watches are round...

I'm not interested in the product but I'm always interested in competition so I'll reserve judgment until actual pictures and details of the product are released.

Google succeeded with the Pixel phones because Android as a phone OS already had an established base of supporters, only thing they had to do was make those unique touches that allow them to compete with not just iPhones but other Android brands as well.
The reason I don't see this Google watch succeeding is that Wear OS hasn't caught on in its competition with Apple's watchOS the same way Android competes with iOS. Same issue with Android tablets, because I don't see a lot of users considering Android tablets even if they're loyal Android phone users.

Oh, and Apple will kill any chance of a Google watch succeeding if they make the Apple watch compatible with Androids. Apple is not as pressured as they were with making iPods compatible with Windows because the iPhone/Android user base ratio is not the same as the Mac/Windows ratio back then.

I don't understand how this will compete with Apple Watch.

Apple Watch = does not work on Android.

Google watch - I'm guessing it will not work on iOS.

Are they saying that Pixel Watch will work on iOS? Or that people today drop Android and go iOS just because they want Apple Watch and having Pixel Watch out there is a way to preserve Android market share?

People wear watches as jewelry. Trust me kid, status hasn't gone out of style.
Okay then pops, I guess your version of status jewelry is different than mine....because that ain't jewelry and never will be. a watch that will be jewelry and status i my eyes is in the Baume Mercier realm. Even a Rolex is just bogus these days as much as people are all buying Merc's and BMW just to say look at me.

I am thinking that if it's "jewelry" then it is not to compete with the AW. Besides, why would you want a device that is out of the apple ecosystem....If it's going to track all my exercise, other parameters, and not have them appear on my iPhone, then what's the point.

I'm surprised by the negative sentiment here. More competition is good. With all the complaints this year of how the Series 7 wasn't a big enough upgrade, you'd think people would want someone else competing in the smartwatch space.
I hate when people complain that a new piece of tech isn't enough of an upgrade. Just because a new version comes out doesn't mean you have to get it. People...lol. I agree competition is good. This will not be much competition to the Apple Watch but at least the few Pixel users will have something to go along with their defective phones....lol.

Waiting on a round Apple Watch. Ain't no way I'm going to put on a Google tracking cuff without having robbed a bank or something first.
