Coffee

No way on Earth will Apple ever make a water proof device of any kind. GoPro does not have to worry. Apple likes to be able to say "water damage" and void the warranty. OK I know they COULD produce a durable camera but then people would ask why their phones and MacBooks can't be made to survive something like spilled coffee.

Just yesterday I was horrified as I spilled coffee all over my iPhone. No damage done!

Over the years, my iPhones have survived many minor liquid encounters, and I never use a case of any kind (except a ziplock when cycling). This includes the two most important classes of liquids, caffeine and alcohol. The only problem was during a minor boating incident that forced an unexpected jump into the water. Even then, my IP5 only required a new screen, probably because I applied too much heat with a hair dryer in trying to mitigate any damage.

Apple also doesn't like to make aesthetically unpleasing products.. water proofing tends to requires design trade offs.

Not defending them, but I think there are more logical explanations.

Never going to happen, GoPros ... are waterproof.

actually, they are not. GoPros do come with a waterproof case, though.

someone also mentioned that Apple will not honor water damage. well, GoPro does this, too. unless you can prove that the case broke with regular use or you have dipped the GoPro in water using the skeleton case, they will also not honor the warranty ... true story from a lot of people in GoPro-centric forums

This is possible as Apple did demo in it's iPhone 6 Plus marketing how OIS helped withrrcording action. If you could mount your iPhone on say a bike or helmet mount and control its camera from your Sports Apple Watch then this could easily impact on GoPro

Tell that to Sony, they must of missed the memo.

i can see it now: introducing applecamera - 16gb of built in storage, 720p recording, and imports only through your itunes app.

(not serious)

Next time you get water damage, wipe it off and put it in a bag or raw rice for 24 hours. Rice really knows how to suck water. It's recovered my phones a number of times.

Can someone explain how Apple can get a patent related to a competitor's product that was already commercially available?

I'm not on the development team of the phone, but I guarantee trade off's in design were made to accommodate it's water proof rating.
