I have been looking for a good GoPro forum, but the only ones I have found are much less active than this forum. I thought maybe there were enough GoPro users here to start a discussion.

Which one do you have, what do you use it for, favorite accessories, etc.

I have the 4 black edition, mostly use it for time lapse video. Depending on the length I want, I'll take a pic every 30 sec, 1 min and let it tick for a few hours.. Load the photo's into bridge, batch rename and I'll do batch camera raw edit if need be.

I'll then take my photo's, load them into AE as a targa sequences, then export as video.

I use after effects to do my zooms, filtering ect..

I have three GoPros for multi-angle recordings, various '3' models (black and silver). I make flying videos with them:

I like the small size, which allows me to mount them almost anywhere. But the more I work with them, the more I wish for global shutter, more manual controls and optical image stabilization. I see a setup in my future where I have one or two higher quality cameras and augment them with the GoPros for angles that a larger camera cannot capture.

Looking at the BlackMagic Micro Cinema Camera, if they ever get around to actually shipping it...

Some good ideas here, but maybe over my head haha.

I have a Hero 4 Session. I have a two year old son and another on the way. I have been using the camera to record some fun with my son. I have also wanted one just to play around with for years. We are having a lot of fun with it so far.

Here is my YouTube link, subscriptions are always appreciated!

I pretty much bought mine for the same reasons. Mounted it to the kid's powerwheels. Mounted it to the swingset. Even wrapped inside a Christmas present.

However, I ended up selling it on craigslist since it ultimately sat dormant because I just used my phone more. Had the Hero 3+ black.

I have several GoPro's and TONs of accessories - as you will see from my YouTube channel!
I also have other action cameras......

Just curious, what was your workflow for making this?

I set up the Go Pro on my patio and set it to take a picture every second. I left it out there for about an hour. I imported all of the files to the GoPro Studio app on my MBP. The Studio does most of the work. I upped the speed to about 600% to get it to under 15 seconds to post on Instagram.

Gotcha.. Normally what I'd do is take a pic every minute. Take those pics and batch rename them in bridge, then take the pics and open them as a targa sequence in after effects. Change my comp settings to 1920x1080 so its a video canvas, and export it that way. I do it this way also so i can add keyframes like zooming and panning effects. Also in after effects your dealing with 1 file instead of 100 pics, the things you can do is awesome.

Hi guys

I am looking for a GoPro for a long time and i'll finally buy my first one.

I will use it for short movies and vlogging.

Someone can give me an opinion about which model is the best for novices?

They're all basically the same to use, but the more expensive models can do higher resolution or higher frame rate. If you can find a hero 3 white they can still do 720p at 60fps or 1080p at 30 and are pretty cheap.

The Hero Session is great due to its size and super ease of use. However, I still think the best one in the range is the Hero 4 Silver - both in terms of cost as well as all-round features. The Hero 4 Black is great with its 4K recording, but unless you really need 4K (which from your example i don't think you do) the Hero 4 Silver would be perfect.

What kind of vlogging and movies? Because if you don't need something that requires an "action cam" then you're much better off with just using a smartphone if you already have one.

I bought my first GoPro a few months ago. I went with the Session because of the price and the size. I will say that I wish it had an LCD screen, but the phone app works well. I have an Instagram page for my GoPro stuff, feel free to check it out. @gpsession

I have the Hero HD, Hero 2, Hero 3 Black, Hero 4 Black and the Session and I must say you really can't go wrong with any GoPro, but similar to the other posts, I must say I have been impressed by the little Session, and especially since the price decrease, I think it is a great choice.

I'm working in short movies for festivals with a friend.

We will make a thriller, the action cam is not essential but will be a good reason to finally buy my baby.

LOL

Thanks, I'll check your channel!

BTW, the vlog is about the film process

I've owned the Hero 4 Silver for about 6 months and have been happy with it. Its an excellent camera. Low light, or indoors not so good, but give it decent lighting and it works very well considering how portable it is.

Very true. I rarely use my GoPros now TBH, but I never used them indoors, always only for outdoor use where there's plenty of good light.

I've used multiple generations of GoPros, starting with the first HD Hero. I currently have a Hero 4 Session and a Hero 4 Black. Having just recently started using the 4 series cameras, I'm having an issue with rendering videos. I've got a lot of lag and choppy playback. It's making editing a real pain. I'd love some advice. I'm running an older MBP, but it has been upgraded and kept fairly current. I had no issues with rendering/playing video prior to the Hero 4's. My current setup is as follows: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 5 GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB, running El Capitan. Help is welcome. The one reputable Mac service center in the area, the one that has done all the repairs/upgrades on this machine, is no longer doing any service work. I don't know where to turn.

Hero4s do 1080p HD, right? Which can tax many lower power machines. Try setting it to lower resolution, like 720p

Are you saying you have a lot of lag and choppy after the render?

I have a 2.3 Ghz Intel i7 with 8GB RAM and intel HD graphics 4000 that has no issue, except for one need to be patient.

What apps are you using?
