With the Gorilla Glass 5, is an additional glass film still necessary?

Are you asking if it's scratch proof? It is not.

But to many people, like me, a glass screen protector was never "necessary". In fact it wasn't even a thing before the iPhone 4 or 5 if I recall.

I haven’t had a screen protector since the iPhone 4S days and never had a single scratch on any of my phones. If you use it properly the glass is scratch resistant enough.
