Bought refurbished Macbook pro 13 retina 29 days back... for $2289

price dropped by $510 today ! .. called apple and mentioned this, person helping me said she can ask manager for 'price protection' and issued me a refund for $510 + tax....

I am guessing apple has a price protection for 30 days or so.. its different from return windows on 14 days..

If any one here bought their macbook pro retina in last 30 days and paid higher price, they can ask for price protection.

I wonder if Best Buy will do the same on the open box I bought a few weeks ago.

I called Apple and inquired about the price lowering and how I ordered less than 30 days ago, they validated my order and they refunded me $99.48 which was the difference after taxes, so I'm happy. lol.

And FYI, my order was on a refurb unit and they still refunded me.

ok, now I am mad. I ordered mine Dec 24, got it 1/2/13, and it was for the rMBP. I paid $3673 for it, it's now available for $3199 same config. I ordered from Macmall, not too happy.

Anyone know if something can be done?

Id call, but if you used a CC, preferably AMEX, then they would refund you the difference usually if the Retailer would not.

Anyone of the earliest (2012 order date) adopters had any luck with a refund of price difference? Pretty disappointed that Apple reduced the price so quickly after release (which IMO screws the first adopters)

I bought a 2.6/16/512 15 in. rMBP refurb on January 24th. I just called and they gave me a complimentary $100 gift card from the Apple Store. Considering I'm a full week out of my return period and they currently don't carry my equivalent refurb product in stock, it's good enough compensation for me :)

Lol nice! I got my 15" rMBP in August, so I think Im too far out but my 13" rMBP was within 30 days.

I bought the $1999 13" retina pro on sunday with student discount, I am debating whether to:

a) return it and get my $1999 back, go buy the same model from the apple refurb store for $1359

b) return it and get the $1699 model with discount at $1599

c) Just keep the machine and get the refund

Uh... I would do "A" without a doubt, thats me though. Over $500 savings.

I agree. As a student, that $640 savings will come in handy. Use it to pay down some debt (or not incur some debt in the first place on something like books).

Exact same situation, except I bought mine last week. After a 10 minute call to Apple, I am $510+tax richer. WooHoo.

That is great that they refunded money. I was well outside that 30 days and would have been jacked over if I didn't swap out my 13" for a 15".

I would like to know too>>>

I'd be interested in hearing if they do too. I'm not too concerned though; due to an open box coupon, I picked up a pristine stock 15" rmbp for less 1480+tax late last month, so even without any compensation for the change, I still walked away with a great deal.

I have some thinking to do, I wish they would just give me a refund and price match the refurbished computer and not make me return this one and then get the refurb. I could definitely put that money towards a thunderbolt display when its refreshed

Slightly peeved about this too. Bought a 13" rMBP on launch date, so it's been 113 days since I purchased and 104 days since I received it.

I did really need a new computer when I bought it, so I guess I've been paying about $2 a day to have the rMBP until now.

EDIT: Called Apple Support just for kicks. They wouldn't budge on giving me any kind of reimbursement. Can't blame them. Price protection period is 14 days, apparently.

Tried calling them too and got a similar response. I was quite surprised at their lack of compensation to be honest, given they're a company which places customer satisfaction as a leading priority.

Definitely doesn't encourage me to be an early adopter of Apple products going forward.

I just got mine price matched at Best Buy with my student pricing. I bought my 13" rMBP base model on December 20th, 2012. I am however a Best Buy Silver Rewards member so I have a 60 day return/exchange policy.
