I think its fair to say the MBA i bought is worth at least $650, $600 dead bottom minimum? But i mean 105 load cycles and body in good shape you can't sit here and honestly tell me $500 isn't a good deal?;)
No it is never worth $600-650 to me. It is not worth even $500.

Thats OK, everyone is entitled to live life on the edge as they please. I like to be smart, if i can't buy it cash money i don't buy it. Actually like to live UNDER my means because seeing a bigger bank account number pleases me more than having something physically that is cool in the electronic world.

Every car & motorcycle i own is paid off, my house is paid off. I can obviously afford the Macbook. Now I'm not bragging. Im just letting you into my conscious. I don't live the life of Dan Bilzeran, even though i respect how he spends his money. I just got back from a week stay in South Beach Miami, while it was fun with my friends as we do it every year for the last 10 years. I am starting to realize, DO I NEED to go spend thousands of dollars on that trip anymore? Ive done it so many times it gets old.

I have to report to a higher authority, my wife. Happy wife, happy husband. When i told her i was getting the new Macbook, she was quiet. That is NOT a good sign lol.

This will go for about $700, and its the 11" model with only 128GB SSD. So i guess there is a sucker born everyday?http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-MacBo...467?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4637d679bb

Not sure what your life story has to do with the value of the Macbook Air

----------

Already told you ebay is for suckers ;)

Well i wasn't giving my life story, just how I'm trying to adjust my spending habits. If you asked me 2 years ago, i would have went for the MBR even if i got my same MBA for $200. Just because its the latest and greatest. I guess I'm getting old, 31 years young :D

At the same time the Macbook intrigues me still. But i don't think i will run out this Friday like i intended to.

----------

So you think i should have went out and spent $1199 on the comparable MBA 2015? I'm speaking of the 256GB SSD version. Hell even compare it to the 128GB version. Do you still think the extra $400 plus tax is worth it if i plan to get next years MBR? For my needs, that would literally be throwing money down the toilet. Same screen, virtually same performance.

Now battery life, prob half as good ill agree. But i travel to South Beach Miami once a year. Other than that, the MBA goes from my Desk, to my bed, to my couch to my kitchen.

Absolutely not...

If you insist on the 256GB version - bhp has a 2014 new for $1029 (which Best Buy price matches)..a movers coupon will knock off a little over $100 if you get from Best Buy. Then if you have a .edu email, that's an extra $50 off.

Also they have an open box for $989...minus nearly $100 from the movers coupon brings it down to approx $889..tax brings you up to nearly $1,000....which really isn't worth it, in my opinion.

The real one to get right now I believe is the 128GB version.

It's $799 at bhp (again - Best Buy price matches) - a movers coupon takes off $80 (let's say tax, which is obviously less). Minus another $50 if you can get the .edu coupon.

So you'd pay about $300 more - which I believe is worth it:

1. Brand new parts.
2. Applecare for a year (with option of extending it if wanted).
3. Much better processor/integrated graphics.
4. Nearly double the battery life.

You're already paying $500. If something goes out on your 2011 - that's all going down the drain. Thats more than 50% of the cost of what a 2014 with better performance, new, with warranty (and option to extend it for another 2 years) would of cost.

I would definitely pay $300 more for that...

There's really no wonder why the guy came down so quickly in price...

Very fair points but I'll play devils advocate, only because i run my own company and have a fair idea how to stretch money & for lack of better word "make **** work".

Apple products have a insane HIGH resale resell value. I JUST seen on eBay a 11" comparable computer go for $650 on eBay with only a 128GB SSD. So i have no idea what you mean by "no wonder the guy came down so fast in price". It was actually a small computer shop, and the guy was thinking about keeping it for himself. So if have the same spec machine & mine is a 13" model, mine would go for about $700 easily with the bigger HD and screen? Heres the link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/301584513467?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Hypothetically this has to last me until next year.

A: They finally make a macbook Air Retina with USB ports etc.

B: 2nd gen Macbook is same base price but greatly improved by either spec or a 13" model.

C: I give it to my 11 year old, next year when i upgrade for his school work. He currently has a iPad he uses for his ***** and giggles stuff like games and streaming stuff.

How is my $500 down the drain? Your last scenario of this whole movers coupon PLUS locating a open box which is used correct? Used is used? So why wouldn't my machine with 105 battery cycles be considered open box?

The ONE AND ONLY thing i like about the newer Macbook Airs is the extra 3-4 hours battery. But i already said, i don't leave my house with it. It goes from my bed, to my kitchen, to my home theatre to my desk with external display. So why would i go out and spend a extra $400 for the extra battery life when i am by a outlet 99.9% of the time.

I'm only giving you my scenario. Find me my condition Macbook Air with my specs on eBay, craigslist hell anywhere and send me the link. I seriously am chuckling that you think that $500 isn't a fair deal for the spec machine i got in the condition. Literally brand new looking with 105 load cycles. Its not the deal of the century. But its $100-$150 under what the market has them at. ;)

If you can find me a Macbook Air in GOOD condition with my specs 13" for $400 ill Pay Pal you $10 bucks and go buy that one and sell mine :)

I am not trying to be snooty. But does $499 even get you a crappy Windows laptop now of days?

Really - as long as you're happy with it. Passing it to a kid seems fair and I would probably take the cheapest I could get as well.

BTW - "Open box" is specific to Best Buy. It's a returned item that gets inspected and sells for sometimes pretty nice discounts. The nice thing is the warranty is intact. Another nice thing is you can use coupons on them (like the 10% off movers coupon, which is pretty easy to attain).

I know what you mean, i really apologize if i came off rude. For "GIGGLES" i am going to my post office tomorrow and see if the lady will give me the movers coupon. I am there several days a week shipping from my eBay store, so she knows me.

I may still ultimately change my mind. If i did as long as i could sell it for what i bought it for id be happy. Seems like some Apple stores won't even be getting these in tomorrow. Which honestly takes the fun out of it! That damn Apple watch! :p

You could also fill out a change of address form online (it costs $0.99) and get the coupon that way. At the end you can select optional coupons - BB being one of them.

I went ahead and did my old addresses just to be certain mail wasn't being sent to them anymore ;)

Anyway, good luck!

Yes and no, there are some legitimate deals to be found on there. For instance i needed a OEM part for Kawasaki ZX-10R and got it half price compared to local dealers. I run a small eBay store as well but thats another story. eBay isn't what it used to be, now that its 10% fee on top of 3% Paypal fee. But it beats running into weirdos on Craigslist lol.

You have to keep in mind, Apple products hold their value VERY VERY well. Like sometimes it shocks me how well.

I love all the responses. But this brings me back to the time i thought i needed a $2,000 gaming PC because my Xbox One wasn't sufficient enough. Long story short i hated gaming with Keyboard/Mouse and that $2,000 gaming PC became a glorified web browsing desktop. And went back to my Xbox One. And ended up selling the gaming PC.

I do plan to get the 2nd gen Macbook Retina. So i am not sure i can justify it would even make sense to get a newer macbook Air even when i don't even travel to begin with. I just like to be mobile with it around the house.

Smart thinking I would just hold on to it for Skylake next big release and the fact you will be able to sell that exact same laptop for $500 next year meaning you haven’t wasted money at all versus buying a new machine then getting $300-$400 less the next year

I ended up selling it for $620 on my eBay store :) . As your right it would be even more dated next year. Picked up a 2015 MBPR 128 GB for $1,177 out the door with tax!. And a $50 BB gift card coming my way to use for a case. I'm happy, new track pad 2015 now gets 10 hour battery. And honestly as a bigger guy the MacBook Pro Retina feels just right to me, especially the 1.3" extra in the screen. I'm more comfortable with the extra wrist area and this will be used 95% of the time in my house as I don't travel.

But rest assure I'll be waiting next year to see if they announce a 14" MBR with Skylake :)

The MBR in person was beautiful. But my hands swallowed the thing. I could Palm pick it up laying flat with one hand wrapping my fingers around the edges. I need a 14" screen version with the size of the MBA type footprint!

Nice you made $120 quick flip and hopefully the rmbp gets a redesign next year its been almost a 4 year gap

You redeemed yourself by making the right choice. :D
I only kept a 13" Air for two days. I couldn't stand the screen after being spoiled with the high resolution retina on my 13" rMBP.
Congrats! They are great machines.

Yeah ultimately i think they will give the axe to the 13" MBA next year, so all the Mac laptops will basically have Retinas. So i figured where would that leave the Air for resale value. Especially if they came out with bigger screen sizes for the MBR like a 14" with Skylake :D.

Until then i will enjoy the crap out of the 2015 MBPR. The new trackpad is really cool. And the added processor bump along with the X2 SSD speeds I'm a happy man :D

I still find for the power it has, the MBPR 13" is a pretty thin and light beautiful machine. And like i said I'm home using it 95% of the time if not more. Honestly to me weight wise i can't feel much between the 13" MBA, i carry it around open one handed with ease the MBPR. The battery is REALLY good so far. Ive been browsing the Macrumor forums for a while now, watch a youtube video or two and its still at 98% with 65% screen brightness :eek:
