After going back and forth through twitter and emails I got this:

I asked:

Would you say that I have a good chance of my order going out today or
tomorrow since I ordered I on the 9th

ATT rep wrote back:

Yes, if you ordered on the 9th, we expect that your iPhone 3G S will
ship tomorrow for arrival on Friday. That being said, orders may be
delayed for reasons that include, but are not limited to: incorrect
shipping info, credit issues, number porting, carrier delays, etc.

AT&T's line, like this guy's, has always been a form of "definitely maybe" for people who ordered online between the 8th and 12th.

All I know is that if by tomorrow I don't have tracking, all hope is lost.
