got a mba as a gift, what to do?

ok, so i got a macbook air as a bday gift. i won't go into how or why i got it as a gift, but i'm looking for others opinions on if/when to open it.

the main thing is: is there any chance that they will get updated at WWDC?

and, what about the back to school thing? will it really start in 2 days? i would qualify for this, so i might as well get my ipod, right?

i really don't think they'll be wwdc updates either, but i thought i would at least mention it.

i haven't opened it yet, so i could take it back, then buy it again with the ipod and get the rebate.

and i didn't say that i didn't want it
 
just take it back and wait 2 days and get your free ipod. and there will not be an update for it in june

Do you have the receipt to it? Return it, wait until Tuesday and go buy and you get free after rebate: a ipod and hopefully a printer (if that's still going on)

i think i'll wait and return it on tuesday, just to be sure about the back to school thing

yeah a free ipod would be nice.

about the mba though, i'm still not 100% sure it's worth the money for me. i already have a macbook, macbook pro, and mac pro.

So the question is whether in addition to your macbook, macbook pro, and mac pro, you should be happy with a free mba, or try and get a free ipod to go along with it?

wish I had that kind of dilemma to face... keep it in the box for a few days, call up a retail store, and see what they'll do for you.
 
I would wait for June 9th, but I heard in the previous year that if a laptop comes out, they should've came out before the back to school promotion?

I need it for work so yeh.

haha, yeah it's not a bad dilemma for sure. but i do want to get my use out of the mba, since it's the nicest gift i think i've ever received.

Oh i should've said it this way, You would get a free ipod after rebate as well as a free printer after rebate ($100)
so you buy a MBA and get ipod nano (199) and printer (100) for free after rebate.

yeah that's true. might as well get the printer also, since it would be free
 
DONT OPEN IT! Wait to return it first then rebuy. That way you'll get the free iPod.

It is now June 2. What do you mean it will be hard to look at the book for another week?

Are you a college student? Most likely starting on monday or tuesday (i.e. today or tomorrow) you'll be able to go in to the apple store, get 100$ off with an education discount, get a free iPod and free printer. You need to pay up front for the iPod + printer, and the mail in rebate is a pain in the butt, but it works (i've done it several times).

Oh, and I'd be shocked if they updated the MBA so soon!
 
I don't understand, you already have 2 mac laptops and now a third unopened, why not return it and get the cash. Then you can buy an iPod and a *good* printer and still have perhaps 1200 dollars left over for something else in the future.

Either way, lucky you :D
 
What I would love to know is who, looking to give a gift to this person who already owns two laptops, considers that a third is an appropriate gift?
 
Unless you are never going to see the person who gave it to you again, keep it.

You might as well sell your standard MacBook, as I'm sure it will no longer be necessary, because the combination of the Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air is surely all you could ever need.
