got a mba as a gift, what to do?

youre not sure if its worth $0? being that you got it as a gift for free.

Take back the Air, sell the macbook and mbp, and buy a new MBP, and save the change for a rainy day.

Are you a college student? Most likely starting on monday or tuesday (i.e. today or tomorrow) you'll be able to go in to the apple store, get 100$ off with an education discount, get a free iPod and free printer. You need to pay up front for the iPod + printer, and the mail in rebate is a pain in the butt, but it works (i've done it several times).

Oh, and I'd be shocked if they updated the MBA so soon!

well, i failed to mention that i got the Macbook free also, but it was not a gift. i was just lucky.

You might as well sell your standard MacBook, as I'm sure it will no longer be necessary, because the combination of the Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air is surely all you could ever need.

That's an awesome gift. If all you want is the free gift(s) then return it in a day or so. Otherwise I'd look at returning it for credit towards something I do want...
 
Return it and buy an HDTV or something since you already have a MB, MBP, and MP.

thanks. it's not that i don't want the air, it's just i don't want to open it, then a week later it gets updated

i have thought about this, but i talked to the person who bought this gift, and we both decided that it's not in my best interest to get an HDTV right now. i don't have anywhere to put it
 
the MBA was gift, keep it.

Sell the MacBook, as it was free, maybe let it go for less than its worth? You would still be making money, and with a MBA it would rarely get used. Just thinking maybe put something back, as it seems you have got so much(wish I got a MB or MBA for free LOL)
 
Sell the MacBook. Keep the Air. You have the MBP if you need a portable powerhouse with ports. I think you'll be amazed at how much the MBA grows on you, and how it becomes the only one to leave the house.

thanks. i might sell the macbook, but maybe hold onto it for now, until someone i actually know needs one. not sure though.

yeah, i definitely got lucky. but i think i am going to put some money with the air, since it's so expensive

i think i will keep the air. the deal does start today, so i'm going to return it, then buy it back with an ipod touch and printer.
 
I have an MBA + iMac and that's enough, and as the famous saying goes, you can only s**t on one toilet at a time. Perhaps you can remind the person who bought you it that having a fourth Mac is largely irrelevant, unless you start selling others.

well i wouldn't say a 4th mac is irrelevant. they are all different, in some way or another. let's just say that person knew i would really enjoy the gift, and i plan to. sure, you can only use one computer at a time. but i am trying to learn Mac OS X Server, so have client machines to bind to the server can't hurt

haha, well i still haven't opened the air yet, but i plan to tonight. you might be right, but since i already have these, the HDTV will wait until i have my own place, and not just a college dorm for 2.5 months
