Hello, how are you?
Got an iPhone 8 Plus today to upgrade from my 7.
The phone is great.
I set it up as a new phone because I like a fresh start.
But the only thing I wanted to keep were my messages.
I though iMessage used cloud sync, so I thought than when I signed up with my Apple ID on the new phone, the messages would be there.
But they are not.
Any way to have them over without doing a backup of the 7 and a restore on the 8 either with iCloud or iTunes?
I would really like to keep the new phone setup.

Cheers and thanks.

Just make sure both iPhones are signed into your iCloud account and have iMessage turned on on in iCloud settings. When they are both connected to Wifi your 7 should back up your messages to iCloud automatically and the 8+ should download them automatically (it may take a bit of time depending on how many messages you have though).

Before you can sync your iMessages via iCloud, you will need to turn on 2FA if you have not already done so. With 2FA turned on your iMessages will sync to your new iPhone 8+ via iCloud.

Thank you for replying.
I have iCloud setup like this:

And I have two factor authentication enabled.
But messages are not appearing on the new phone.
Messages I received after setting up the new phone, appear on both. But old messages aren’t showing on the new iPhone.

Enter your iCloud account with your Apple ID and password. Check to see if your old messages that you wish to sync to your new iPhone 8+ are there.

On a computer? At iCloud.com in a browser?

You can access your iCloud account from your computer using Safari or another browser. You can do the same from an iPad or an iPhone.

With iPad/iPhone Safari, need to press & hold the refresh icon and tap "Request Desktop" to sign into iCloud.

Was the 7 on v11.4 or higher? iCloud Messages first appeared at that version, and obviously, needed to be enabled.
