Okay so if I was to purchase an OEM Windows Vista Home Premium (or OEM XP Pro, I havent decide if I want to use Vista or XP via Boot Camp just yet), I would be able to install it on my Mac without problems as long as I didn't use it on another computer

If I wanted to use it in parallels and/or bootcamp, I would be able to call them and tell them it was the same computer and they would allow the install?

Thanks. Just wanted to get my facts straight.

Yep,you shouldn't have to ring microsoft if you know the installation process,i cant remember it,as its been
along time since i dumped it for Fusion

What is this "fusion" I'm hearing so much about? It seems most people either use that or Parallels.

I don't know if Boot Camp is really whats right for me, I don't plan to use Windows all that often but the thing is, when I do I want to to work well. It seems running on top of OSX in any case will just slow things down.

Anyway, thanks for the responses. I'll probably pick up an OEM Vista Home Premium at some point.

Vista Ultimate is the only one approved to be used in a VM and bootcamp at the same time. Also dont get XP Pro unless you have a mac pro, it doesnt have any features youll use unless you have 2 physical processors.

Need Help.

I recently got a macbook and im still learning how to use it. I need to run some programs on widows and i was told that i could run windows on my mac.

I have done some shopping but all the windows operating systems but i am not sure which ones i can or cannot install on my mac. I have a budget of only $100 for this. Could you guys tell me where i can find any windows operating system for less than $100 that would work on my macbook?

i am new to the whole OEM Windows thing so im not sure if i should buy a OEM or a retail one which are much more expensive.

Thanks so much for the help.

The OEM/System Builder License has changed since this thread started in 2006. Microsoft has made it quite clear that it is licensed only for pre-installation on a PC intended for resale to a non-related third party and is NOT licensed to end users/hobbyists/etc....

That said, it'll generally work. You're just not "properly" licensed.

Do you happen to have a license of XP or Vista you could use to qualify for the retail upgrade pricing. You don't need to install it or anything, as you can do a clean install from the upgrade package.

EDIT: Are you a college student? Can you qualify for the US$29 http://win741.com/ deal? Or some other deal on campus. While these are delivered as upgrade licenses MS has also said that they are equivalent to full retail.
