Any way Apple store or best buy or something would take it let me get the series 4, by just paying the difference in price?

Series 3 is unopened and gift from company.

Unless you have a receipt or gift receipt, nah. They don't know where it came from after all, or how you got your hands on it.

Best you could manage is either to trade it in at Apple as part of their trade-in program (and lose a bunch on value) or try and sell it on e-bay/Craigslist/whatever, where you will still take a loss but probably be able to get more for it than trading it in at Apple.

Unfortunately, you cannot do exchanges which is ridiculous. But what you can try doing is you can see how much store credit Apple will give you for the watch trade in.

If it was purchased from Apple Store, they could actually look up the transaction if you have some minor details about the product. Otherwise, any retailer could assume it was stolen if it’s unopened and with no receipt, which is exactly why they won’t assist you.
