Hi,

I purchased an AW on ebay a couple of weeks ago from a reputable store seller. they accidentally refunded me the full amount after we agreed on a partial refund because the watch was a little more scratched then what they noted and i wanted to keep the watch. What's my stand here? Should i keep it and run or do the right thing? They sent an invoice via paypal for the watch (minus the partial refund). Am I obligated to pay or since it was their error, they're at my mercy?

thanks all.

I guess that depends on your own moral barometer. The seller may notice the mistake and put in a claim stating that he only meant to send you a partial refund instead of full as evidenced by written emails. Now I don't know what would happen after that with Paypal (if you used Paypal) or with your credit card company, but I wouldn't want to explore that route.

original funds were paid via paypal balance.

Keeping the money is theft. So, are you asking if it is OK to be a thief or if you would think you would get caught in theft and what would happen if you do?

It's easy to get sidelined with online purchases.
In cases like that, I always put the situation in context with an equivalent physical sale:
I go to the store, buy a product, come back to exchange it because of scratches, and the store employee hands me the money & the new product.
It's the employee's mistake. If I leave, he would be in troubles and could get fired or have to pay for it out of pocket.
If I hand it back, the employee will keep his faith in humanity.

I think option 2 is the best.

Sounds like he refunded your money and sent a new invoice with an updated price to reflect the difference. Why wouldn't you pay the new invoice. The seller did the right thing, why wouldn't you?

Pay for your purchase. This is going to catch up with you eventually. Besides.... bad karma, man.

I am in agreement -put some coins in the karma bank.
That said, I can understand why someone may make either decision.

I really can't. I can understand someone returning the merchandise since their money was refunded and doing without if they really cannot afford to purchase the item.

I cannot understand STEALING the item, though. And, this is what the OP would be doing.

Yep, and I get that. I'd return it.
Not every wears a halo though, and some people simply take advantage of the situation.

Maybe the seller didn't know how to issue a partial refund so issued a full one followed by a new invoice for the newly agreed amount?

Personally your quids in anyway as you've got the item 1/2 price when you were prepared to pay the full asking price, I say pay the second invoice as all that's going to happen is the seller will log an unpaid invoice against you, followed by PayPal siding with the seller and debating your account for the £££

Depends if that money means a lot for you. There's no right or wrong.

False. The OP received an invoice for the correct amount so he's obligated to pay it. Failure to do so would be just like refusing to pay any other bill.

I'm not sure why people insist on quoting me. I agree the OP should reconcile the difference and ensure the correct amount is due back to the seller. I've said this twice.

HOWEVER not everyone will do this whether it is RIGHT or WRONG.

Perhaps you shouldn't have said "I can understand why someone may make either decision" because that carries a certain implication/sympathy from you.
