The other day my lightning cord that came with my 9.7 iPad Pro just stopped working. Wouldn’t charge the iPad at all, no matter how it was positioned. So I was kind of pissed that I’d have to spend 20 dollars on a new cord because I used it correctly and was always careful with it. Then I thought of seeing if I could get Apple to replace it under warranty, I thought especially as an AppleCare+ owner I’d have luck getting them to do this. So I contacted their support and surely enough they complied. I chose the remote repair option where they send me out a new cord and I send them back the broken one in the same box and they place a 20 dollar hold on my credit card until they get the old one. They said there would be absolutely no repair costs since I have AppleCare+ on the iPad. Maybe this is common knowledge but I was surprised that the cables would be covered.

Just wanted to share this with anyone who has AppleCare+ and has a cable that stops working. Good way to make sure you get your money’s worth out of AC+.

Your cables and all accessories are covered under the same 1 year warranty as your phone. Regardless if you have ac+ or not.

All accessories related to an iDevice are covered under the same warranty.
I have had my leather case for my mini replaced simply because my mini was still under warranty. The same with my in-ear bud.

If you're buying iOS devices every year, you can easily get at least two cable replacements per device.

iPhone 6 - claim warranty using iPhone 7
iPhone 7 - claim using iPad (2017)
iPad (2017) - claim using iPhone X
iPhone X - claim again using iPhone X

Just about anyone can walk into an Apple store with their lightning cable and ask for a replacement for free. The geeks are know to carry multiple cables on their belt. I have seen cables replace before they even got inside the store.

Good to know, but I don’t think that’s usually true that they’re giving them out like lollipops no matter your warranty status.

I do not think they can track the warranty on something like a cable. I think if you walked in and said your cable only works sometimes or is not working, they will give you another.
