As the owner of many macs over the years and still now I'm fascinated with those who are buying this highly overpriced, underpowered machine. it just amazes me that people are paying so much $$ for it. Mind boggling. to add to my computers I recently picked up a new 2014 base mba 11" for $720 from BB. It's far superior to the rmb and cost at least almost $400 less than the base rmb. Before the advent of the rmb, everyone was raving about the 11" mba, especially the later models after the initial introduction. but to spend $1300 plus tax (for many) for a base model rmb soon underpowered is ridiculous.

Wow, so defensive. You are SOOOO wrong my friend with your dumb assumptions. I have no need for 8gb and 256. It's just a little portable I can use in conjunction with my mbp 15" and my desktop mac mini. I only paid $720 for it and it is far superior than the base rmb that you paid probably $1300 plus tax.do the match, einstein,

You know repeating big lies doesn't make them true.

Just got a rMacBook 1.2 512 GB in Space Gray for $1182.59 at Best Buy. Now it's not the color I wanted (Gold), but for the price I will live with it.

Great find!

Funny story, I saw that on Monday night searching around and thought about checking it out before the store closed, it's a good thing I didn't or you might not have found that one :p

snatching it up first thing when they opened in the morning was an appropriate course of action on your part.

Also, I don't really need 512GB or the CPU bump, but for pretty much the exact same money as new in box base model with 10% off, seems like a steal and a half plus it'll help preserve resell value if you trade up next year! Especially considering it was "satisfactory" condition and the only complaint was that the AC adapter was a little scratched-- I wouldn't care less, you nailed it!

ya snooze ya lose!

thats an awesome deal! I wanted the 1.1/256 but my local bestbuy had a 1.2/512 open box for 1503. That is nowhere as good of a deal as you got, but I haven't seen any open box rMB around me at all. It's in perfect condition though and I used a 10% movers coupon to get it down to 1353 before tax (for a savings of $246)

Actually, I got the mba because it offered more computing abilities than an iPad. i've had all the iPads from 1-4, dumped them and now just use samsung android, including having the samsung note pro 12.2, which is one hell of a tablet. with a samsung bt kb and samsung bt super mouse and the true ms word etc programs that came with it, it's virtual laptop at times. but now that i have the mba the 12.2 and my other tablets haven't been getting much use. My main big argument with the rmb is the price.

So basically your MBA is used to browse these forums, check your email, buy some stuff online, and putz around on the couch and in bed with? If we're talking being frugal, and not spending unnecessary money, then I would have to say that I you have wasted about $421 by not just getting a 16GB Wifi iPad mini (original non-retina of course) instead. After "doing the match" - A full OS X laptop is a waste of money. I just don't have the need to spend almost $1400 (with sales tax) for it.

Why don't you list the ways the 11" MBA is superior to the MB, in your opinion, and for your use case? It seems to me like price is the only way you are motivating "superiority".
