not any job, but most jobs.

Then they always send them to the lab to have it done when they should be at occupational health

at least 3 times a day i am telling someone they are in the wrong place and i will show them where to go.

Sorry eva on drug test requirement .. since you know better than me on the drug test requirements ..

My one friend couldn't figure out why sales places don't want their employees to smoke pot or something relatively harmless. Someone who does that is gonna sell a lot more replacement plans and more overall volume to make extra spiffs to pay for his stuff. Plus with working in retail they wont go insane if they have something to really relax them at the end of a killer week.

There are more and more studies showing that habitual marijuana influence can lead to a problematic symptom, amotivational syndrome (duh, you lose your motivation). In addition, people under the influence of drugs are more likely to have it impair their work ethic-- showing up late, skipping out, zoning out, likely to let the next associate assist that customer in his/her section than do it him/herself.

And congrats. iphil.

Well this came from a friend who was also on adderall for his ADD. So i guess either his adderall counteracted the negative effects of the marijuana, or he was a special case and could resist becoming a lazy bum since he knows he has bills to pay.

Im not condoning smoking pot or suggesting people in sales should. The topic of drug testing just reminded me of my friends statement and I thought it was kinda funny and semi-true for moderate smokers which he was. He worked as a rep for a company in best buy and was actually the top sales person in the nation for a program.

Sorry for hijacking the thread...

^^ One of my psych teacher has colleagues who are literally rocket scientists. She was appalled when she found out that they all routinely abuse drugs (both at and away from work). Her opinion? Imagine what more they could accomplish, if they weren't under the influence of anything...

well about 4PM pst. i get a call its from Fry's

And they say they got my drug tests back the test came back Negative

So i start on monday (4/3/06) :D :D :D

From watching The Office yesterday I now know negative is a good thing.

good luck

i always look forward to going to san jose's fry's since it's like a disneyland for tech heads

even though i hate the pt work i do as a self employed tech, i still like to look at all the neat stuff all the computer companies have to offer

i think my next computer will be a pc, but not some boring low end hp, emachine, or dell, but a nice sony or fujitsu...if i had the money, my ultimate computer would be a maxed out alienware laptop

I didn't want to stress you out before your interview, but now that you've got the job, I'll go ahead and say it. Fry's is known for their horrible customer service. Beyond bad. Google "Fry's" and you'll see what some people have to say about it. I know that every company has its detractors, but Fry's does appear to be one of the worst electronics retailers in terms of customer service.

That said, they need people like you to turn things around. Congratulations on the job. Now go out there and be courteous, be knowledgeable, and be helpful. In the fast-changing world of electronics, people like this are desperately needed. It's not just another retail job...take pride in what you do, educate yourself, and share that education effectively with others. As a Mac person, you're fully aware of the "evangelist" role Mac owners often play. Now you're expected to do that across the board in order to help people find what best suits their needs. Best of luck to you...I'm looking forward to hearing about how Fry's has turned things around to become the shining beacon of electronic retail. :D

Drug test/background check are always a pre-employment requirement for any job in the US

What? Not only have I never had to do any of that, I don't know anyone else who has, either. Wait--there was one friend of mine who had a background check done (they contacted me). Other than that, nothing. Maybe it depends on the area.
