I notice that your face has to be a certain distance away from the phone to initialize and use face ID. Do other people find this same characteristic? You can not just put the phone close to your face for it to work. For instance, I am near sighted and take off my glasses while using the iPhone in bed. I usually hold the iPhone much closer to my face in this case. But if I want to use face id, I have to move the phone a little bit away. It is kind of annoying for me. But I guess the lenses focus between a certain set of distances in order for it to work.

I haven’t gotten my phone yet but did see a video where someone had their X on their bathroom counter and it unlocked even though she was a few feet away from it and she barely looked at it directly.

A few feet away isn't the problem. If the phone is too close to your face, it can't take in your whole face and face Id doesn't work.
