Stopped by BB as I had some time to kill. I noticed they had two small Apple boxes up in the cage. I asked what model they were and was told retina but not the new one. Well that made zero sense so I asked for them to pull one down. Silver and SG 1.2GHz/256 in stock. Or so I thought. They were meant to be put on display and was told buy an older gentleman they couldn't sell one to me. I asked for the manager. They saw a store an hour away had 2 SG in stock. They were going to hold/order it for me so I could go pick it up but the system wouldn't let them do it. One of the staff made a call and asked them to ship one of theirs so that I could walk out with the item I wanted. Everyone was really awesome about it. They saved me a couple of hours of hassle.

Nice to see some quality customer service for a change :)

And they even retroactively applied a 10% coupon after the sale.

Glad that worked out so nicely for you! For all the grief they get, I've had nothing but the nicest, most competent experiences with Best Buy in the last few months.

I did the same thing at a local Best Buy the day after it was released. Said they had a few in stock, drove 30 minutes, they couldn't get it to ring up, manager was no help either. They said sorry. Others like you were able to get them to ring it up correctly. I really hate BB these days.

The problem is the SKU is in the system, but the UPC still hasn't been associated with the SKU. So the only way for them to ring them up is to type the SKU for the product into the POS. It's not really that uncommon for new products at any retailer. Best Buy's website has their SKUs, but when I bought mine I had to prod them to look it up and ring it up that way.

It's not rocket science, and the employees at BBY are certainly not rocket scientists, so you have to cut them a little slack.

So it's possible that online they don't show any in stock but might have a few?

I'm pretty sure they just show up as not available for in store pickup on the website right now regardless of in store stock.

EDIT: I should mention that they do show up in the open box listings though. There are 5 or 6 within 248 miles of where I live.

I just walked in to my Best Buy, in Bellevue, WA, and picked up a base model in Space Gray this morning. It's totally possible to find one in store!

Walked in and got a 1.1 space gray. Don't order online. They have them in stock in the store. Just call around.

precisely. All of the stores show "not available" for pickup in store; however, a lot of stores do have stock. The only thing showing online is open box returns.

I ordered a movers coupon off of eBay for 4 bucks to get 10% off as well. Paid 1275.29 with tax for my Mac :)

Or you could just go to the post office and get one for free :)

If driving several miles (potentially a half a tank of gas round trip, ehh $2), and standing in line for 10 minutes is worth a $4 savings, go for it.

Personally I prefer to spend $1.10 to get the coupon on usps.com ... not even worth walking down to my car for a dollar savings let alone driving to the horrid USPS.
