That's just one scenarion, and it so true. However, arguing that with the Apple fanboys (not being disparaging, but it seems to fit) is a waste of time. Whatever Apple thinks must be right. It's their way or no way. Steve Jobs says it, so it must be. And if Apple had put out MMS with the original iPhone? Then we wouldn't be hearing any of this crap.
According to AT&T, they seem to be tacitly admitting that if MMS had been on the iPhone from the beginning, their network would have died, disease would run in our communities, bunnies would be sterilized, etc.
It's always seemed counter-intuitive to me. Apple always prides itself on making things "just work", an easy way to do everything, etc. All the workarounds are like head wounds.
Would not be shocked to learn that keeping MMS off the iPhone was part of AT&T's deal, as they feared they could not handle the load.
Confession: I did do the 4.5 carrier file thing on our phones, we've been shooting pix back and forth over a week now. There have been one (maybe two) times it's been useful, a la the Italian Ice Incident, but the other several dozen have been playtime.
This morning, she sent me a pic of her friend's new hair style, "isn't it cute?" she says. She would have never thought to email that, she never sends email photos. Too many steps to take the time away from what she's doing.. but texting is stream-of-consciousness, it seems, and can be done without breaking the flow of the conversation. Or something.
So, you're right. In keeping with Apple's motif, it should have been there all along.
Thats actually a good question. I have been wondering the same thing. I would love it if I was able to just update the carrier file since I am jailbroken I'd rather not have to rejailbreak and go through the whole process over again.
Anyone? Would it be possible to just get the carrier file separate from the actual OS update?
yes. 4.5 carrier file seems to work. I've seen it done on two phones with 3.0.1, and all are MMSing for a week now. JB not involved. but you do have to flip a switch in your iTunes to allow it to handle IPCC files directly. Small PITA, and probably not worth it with only 3 weeks left to go.
