The total thickness of the M2 Air is almost identical to the lower case of the 14" Pro. I have a Midnight 8/24/1TB arriving tomorrow (I decided to return the 10/16/1TB version I had before).
How did the return process go? I'm considering a similar swap but mine M2 hasn't even arrived at the store yet :O

This computer is delicious. I am coming from a 2015 MacBook Air with 4gb ram. I got the base config, and was very unhappy with that old MacBook Air. 2 years after owning it, I could barely open Microsoft Office because of beach balls.. It was severely underpowered... I was hesitant, but this time I doubled up on the Ram and the Storage. So I got a midnight 16 gig with 512 ram.. Typing on it now. The screen is so ridiculously smooth coming from my 2015 air.. I downloaded Microsoft Office and instantly opens! yay.. The hardware can't be understated... The new m2 MacBook Air looks and feels incredible. The Keyboard is like butter to type on, and the speed.. So compact, so sexy!

Easy. I submitted the request online on Day 14, and it gave me up to another 2 weeks to print out the shipping label. I dropped it off at FedEx, and a few days after they received it the return processed on my card.

  • I had 30+ browser tabs open and as I continued to open more, websites loaded instantaneously. Tradingview and many exchanges consume a lot of resources in browser windows that my MacBook 12 couldn't handle after a few minutes. No such issues with the M2 Air. None. Websites load at lightning-fast speed.
That's exactly what I was hoping for—information showing a faster web browsing experience. Thank you, rr23, for mentioning that in your OP.

I used it for the entire day and here's what I noticed:

  • It stays cool to the touch. Not once did it get even slightly warm. Seriously, I tried overloading it with daily tasks and couldn't get it to warm up, let alone get hot.

  • Wife called on FaceTime and she couldn't believe how good the webcam looked.
  • The battery lasts FOREVER lol. At least that's what it feels like. I'm still on factory charge after 8 hours of semi-heavy use with 20% left.
  • Magsafe charging kicks ass. It feels so solid and effortless to connect.
  • Screen is gorgeous and feels huge compared to my MacBook 12.
  • All in all, to me, this is hands down the best looking laptop in the world. From all angles, it's simply stunning.
  • Silver color looks spectacular is person. I'm so glad that I went this route. It looks like a very light silver (almost white at times), but that could be because I was so used to space gray.
  • Quality-wise, it's perfection. Zero issues or defects that I could spot. Keyboard is smooth as butter. Hinges on the screen feel incredibly sturdy. What an amazing product.
  • After all day use, I can't see any fingerprints. Nil. I don't understand why so many reviewers complained about this. Their hands must be extremely oily.

For the record, I don't do video editing and I never will. So there's that. But what I can tell you is that my old 16 GB MacBook 12 was complete trash when it came to performance. It would get scorching hot very quickly (yes, scorching hot to the point where it would burn skin if you touched the bottom) with 20 browser tabs open. It would also throttle like crazy after just 5-10 minutes of heavy use (and by heavy, I mean having many browser tabs open).

For me, this upgrade is like going from a Toyota Camry to a Ferrari. I don't know of any other way to describe it. Night and day. My goal was to buy the fastest, lightest, and most portable laptop with a native Apple ecosystem. Mission accomplished.
feel the same but just have the 8gb/512 - nice machine!

I also have a 10/24/1tb for two weeks now. If I had listened to the YouTubers I would have kept my M1. As it was I had a chance to compare after a migration identical work flow and apps between machines After 2 days the m1 shipped out and the M2 is the new daily driver. Faster, cooler, lasts all day. Even feels better in the hand. Not disappointed.

Yes don’t believe the media -! Haha

I saw the 14" Pro at an Apple Store and it seemed much thicker. Also, ergonomically, I prefer this M2 Air design so much more over the old Air/MacBook 12 because the tapered edge would always dig into my palms when I had it on my lap while laying down. The spacing between the keys is also so well thought out.
Apple really designed this machine so well. I just wish they didn't use the notch. I get that's their design language now, but I don't have to like it. As far as everything else, it's perfect.

Unless they can defy optical physics and integrate a camera underneath the panel, the choice is either notch, punch-out or a smaller display (ie M1 air).

I don’t even see the notch anymore - on my iPhone neither.

I kind of get why they need the notch on the phone with the entire multi camera face ID setup but if they're just fitting a relatively basic 1080p camera for facetime calls I think a hole punch would be preferable on the latpop. I guess by adding the notch they're partly prepping us for a future where laptops eventually come with faceID login.

The notch was definitely not needed for this camera, this is just apple making us embrace the notch at every turn lol. For some people its hard to ignore and that's understandable, but I've been using it on the iPhones for years.
