Hi,

I've got my 4s reserved at an Apple store for tomorrow morning. I'm spending a day with the family on vacation after that.

- Will I leave the store with the phone working? I have a 3G now.

- Will the battery be charged so I can use it for the day?

- Will the same car charger for the 3g work for the 4s?

Thanks for the info and advice.

Yes to all of them. You should have about 80% batt out of the box.

Great! Thanks for the quick responses.

So I'm guessing they'll take my 3G and copy over all the apps, music, pics, etc... from it?

If so, approx how long will that take?

You're wrong

They do none of that 4 you, you should do a backup of your phone now or in the morning before you go, preferably to a laptop since you're about to travel, then you can restore to that backup of your 3G.

So they'll take out my old chip (or just deactivate it) and the new phone will work? Then when I plug it into iTunes I'll get the "do you want to restore" question?

There'll be a new sim in your 4S. They'll activate it for you and your old sim in the 3G will be deactivated. With the 4S, and iOS 5, you activate your phone right from the device. No need to plug into iTunes first. You only need iTunes to restore from your 3G backup so you can get all your contacts, pics, SMS's, etc.

Great, thanks.

BTW - does this forum operate on a "rep" system. In other words, if I vote up a response will it help a poster (or is there some other way?)?

Maybe. As I recall the 3G supported 12v charging directly as well as 5v USB, and a lot of aftermarket car cords of that era used the 12v pins to save manufacturing cost. Those cords will not work with a 4/4S. It won't hurt the phone, the 4S ignores voltage on the 12v pins. You'll just need to try it and see.
