How often are you at home using your desktop computer but not sitting at your desk?

The point is that Apple no longer offers a proper wireless desk solution. Either you have to sacrifice the full sized keyboard or have a cable danging around. This is the age of wireless so we shouldn't have to have cables all over our desk if we don't want them. I think the mini keyboard is a fantastic idea for things like mac mini media centres but they're a bit silly for a desktop. At the very least they should have two offerings, one with numpad etc, one without.

I know someone who's going to be buying an iMac soon and he really wanted a wireless desk. Having seen the wireless keyboard, he's now forced to go for a desk with wires on because he needs the numpad. I realise its a 'consumer' line but a lot of 'consumers' still use the numpad. Those little arrow keys would be rather rubbish for gaming too.

I'm still hoping that when Apple refreshes the Mac Pro lineup they'll release a new line of 'pro' keyboards without this nonsense of trimming off keys.

To the OP, please check your PM. I'm trying to figure out how/where you got your hands on one of these...I can't find them anywhere in my state or surrounding states...anyone else have any idea or heard of anywhere where they've been released? Thanks!

Really? They sell them on the Apple Store  Online and B&M.

OP can you tell me the dimensions, of the wired one. I currently have a Kensington slim one, and it fits nicely on my keyboard tray w/ my mouse, I wanna know if the new isn't too big.

I'd get the wireless one, but lack of numeric pad hurts.

There might be plenty of third party keyboard makers but that's not the point. Most mac users want apple keyboards. I'm sure there will be many people who, on the purchase of an iMac, will decide *not* to spend the extra money on a wireless keyboard because of it not being full sized when they would have bought it otherwise. I know we're not talking massive amounts of money, however, that will reduce Apple's earnings a bit - that just seems a bit daft.

This is frustrating

I am in NYC... I ordered one of these the day they came out and am still waiting. Expected to ship today, of course, but no email nor news. I am thinking of just cancelling the online order and going into the Apple Store and getting one in person. It wouldn't even be here before the end of the week! Christ.

fyi - dropped by the soho store friday and they didn't have them - the salespeople had no idea when they would arrive. monday/today would be nice :p

Hey, thanks for posting the pics. I noticed the angle on the wireless one seems to be greater than the wired version. Which do you prefer? Is the angle adjustable at all?

I bought my iMac back in Feb 07

Is the new iMac keyboard an improvement over the older raised one I use? Should I invest? :apple:

i know whose house i'm visiting for... umm..... "christmas" ;):D

Does that mean you're planning to rob the OP? If so, I want in.

Not sure if these suckers are available in Atlanta, but I'll find out today...are we sure they ever actually even got released? Maybe the OP is just an Apple rep trying build up more hype for keyboards that only exist in graphical form.

I'm also very happy with my new keyboard:

I ordered it on the 7th of august and received it today. Unfortunately the Apple website is unavailable at this time for my keyboard update.

Holy crap! How do international buyers have this keyboard even before we do here in the US?! They aren't even shipping for 3-4 weeks STILL?!

no boston area store have them in stock. I live about 1 hour or less from everyone of them. And I called every single one. If anyone finds one around here let me know.

Mine arrived last Friday and I finally have a chance today to try it out. This thing is awesome. It's so tiny, it reminds me of the first time I saw an iPod nano. I compared it to a PowerBook and a MacBook and as expected, it's exactly the same size.

I think the keys are slightly stiffer than my MacBook keys.

After using a full size keyboard over the years with a mouse pad on the right, I've gotten used to having the alpha keys way off center to the left. Now it seems a bit awkward having them centered, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I think I'm already typing faster than on my old keyboard.

Key response seems instantaneous. It's the first wireless keyboard I've had. I had read comments occasionally that there is a split-second delay in wireless keyboard response but I can't see it if it exists.

I don't do much accounting or gaming or anything which would demand a number pad so I really like this setup. I'm sure I would hate it if I did accounting on a regular basis. I'm not fast at all with number keys on the top row.

Thank you for the pictures. That is one of the best comparisons I have been able to see and really helps in making my decision to get the wireless one.

Has anyone tried using the new keyboards (wired or wireless) with a gel wrist-rest yet? Do they sit too low on the desk, or is it still comfortable?
