The unit itself plugs into a USB header on the motherboard, it does not plug into a USB port. You would need a cable that has 2 usb male plugs on one side (one for data and one for power) and pins on the other to plug the efi-x unit into. I have heard of users doing this, there is even a thread on the efi-x forums about it but it is not officially supported and probably voids the warranty. This site has USB to header cables you would need two. As for the Lenovo since they only support Gigabyte and DFI motherboards and NO laptops right now there is no way to konw if it will work with it. You can check the website for a full list of tested hardware. Mine has been up and running great since about last November. Hope this helps.
The Efi-X website says that it plugs into the motherboard USB port. Will it work plugged into an external USB port?
Does EFi-X only work with fully-tested motherboards?
I want to try it with a Lenovo ThinkPad W700 laptop. (I would always use it on my desk in lieu of a tower computer, so a card laying on the desk beside it would be no more of a problem than an external hard drive laying next to it.)
Would this be a hopeless undertaking?
