Heh, I think of the thread posted on MR about a week or so ago regarding whom will post the first unboxing video.

Looks like you might have won.

Hey all, just received my new phone about an hour ago and have a dumb question.

Does anyone know of a thread that talks about the steps to follow to migrate from a 3G to the iPhone 4? This is the first time for me to have to do this.

I am kinda paralyzed on what all I should and what order to do it in. The farthest I've gotten so far is unboxing the new phone and starting a charge on it.

Any direct help or direction to an appropriate thread that covers this would be greatly appreciated. I did try a search but didn't turn up anything.

Thanks.

Well first backup all the things on your iPhone 3G in iTunes
Then call AT&T to activate the phone
Then just simply restore on the backup from your iPhone 3G

Thanks so much.

Curious on why I have to call At&T; I thought the new phone would go thru activation once it connects to iTunes? I don't doubt what you are saying, just had not heard that before.

Thanks.

As I learned going from a 3G to 3GS, I don't mess with it.
I set it up as a new phone so everything is loaded fresh.
My exchange account has all my contacts so it synchs anyway.
Otherwise, just hook up your old phone, back it up in iTunes, then when you set up the 4, it will ask if you want to restore from your last backup.
No worries.

I'm...not sure this is true. I activated both the 2G and 4 from my place without a call to AT&T, though I did swing by the store this afternoon to verify my unlimited data was intact.

Got dangit, mine says it doesn't ship until July 14th. Maybe i'll get lucky and get it earlier, but still not as early as those who pre-ordered the first day. I'll have to use my gophone for 3 more weeks lol
