(Made a thread last week, its deep in there and kinda out dated and needs to go.)

long story short: I tried to install mountain lion and after installation my 2010 mbp could no longer boot. so i (with my windows partition) got all my files off my hard drive and seeked to rewipe the drive. (along the way i took it to the genius bar and they told me it was broken and i need to buy a new $220 hard drive).

I got it wiped clean and tried to reinstall osx (with my original snow leopard install disk) but I get this when booting from the disk(attached photo):

    Why?

Edit: i dont know why my picture is sideways

Are you sure you have the correct restore discs for your model?

Do you have access to another Mac where you could re-download Mountain Lion and create a bootable USB drive and install from there?

First thing springs to mind is the disk formatted to the correct format for OS X; Mac OS Extended (Journaled) boot from the DVD and check the disks file format
