I took advantage of the Crucial RAM deal and my MBP now houses 4Gb of RAM. Can someone suggest a test that shows I am getting the reported 3.3Gb of RAM. I have a 2.33gHz so the matched pair is supposed to give that 0.3Gb push even though the logic board can't 'see' 4Gb.

I ran xbench and wasn't too pleased.

Why would extra RAM give you better results in a benchmark that doesn't need to access that RAM? All extra RAM does is stop your machine swapping out to your HDD as much. If your machine wasn't swapping out to the drive before you won't notice a difference just by adding more RAM.

Here you are. The 2.16GHz results are the most applicable to your machine.

Thanks maybe you could explain why my xBench is 86 and a slower 2.16gHz is 160? Are they omitting the HDD tests?

Yes, they state in the article that they omitted the disk tests, because those tests did not touch the RAM and clearly would not be affected by the amount of RAM installed.
