I hate these people.

On AT&T, forward the spam text to 7726. This is AT&T's spam report number and its free.

Thanks...

But dang... I already deleted it.

People do google searches for phone numbers so I'll write it again so people will find this post and use it. :D

At least you get spam that makes sense.

I get spam that's just gibberish - some Muslim language, I think, and about some Mosque or something.

But I hope there's a special circle of hell reserved for those text spammers. With email, it's bad enough, but with text, you *PAY* for it. ****ing ****ers.

It costs money to recieve texts if you don't have unlimited...

Wow. I knew you paid to receive calls in the US but I didn't know about texts. That's crazy. In the UK (and most other countries, as far as I am aware), you pay only for the calls and texts you make. The idea of it costing to receive is alien; what happens if you have a pre-paid phone and you have zero balance?

I knew that phones were generally more expensive across the pond – I pay the equivalent of $42 per month for 900 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited data and unlimited tethering on a 12 month contract – but that really does take the ****.

Whenever I get a message like that (which thankfully isn't often) the only inconvenience to which I am subjected is having to delete it, so I can see why you are annoyed!

Well, if we choose to read it, then it costs us money. The act of just recieving it doesn't take money, but chances are we're going to read it. You either don't get the text at all (probably more likely) or don't get to read it.

Yep. :(

Ouch, it seems like AT&T et al conduct their businesses on the premise of being avaricious tightwads.

It's from the northern Virginia area. It's the new government program where they are giving away iPads to everyone. It's true! President Obama said he was giving everybody an iPad in a speech the other day! Just call the number and they will send you a shiny, new iPad!

Incorrect. You pay for it whether you read it or not.

I don't. I only pay for it if I read it.

Correct.

Who's your carrier?
With AT&T you pay for it whether you read it or not. And how would AT&T know if you read it or not? The only thing they can do is send the text to your device.

I currently have T-Mobile, but I'm not sure if that's how they work or not, as I have unlimited.

I used to have a Tracfone, and they only deducted money from your account if you opened the message (Edit: I still have the phone/plan on).
