The Government has a significant interest in this because smartphone thefts are now one of the leading calls for police service in big cities. If an iPhone can be bricked then it cannot be sold. If it cannot be sold, there is no desire to steal it. This would reduce crime= better for the community.

Nice to see that someone actually gets it.

They should get two different people to install Facebook on their smartphones and see if Facebook suggests or asks one another if they know the other person or would like o add them even though every permission is switched off. Security fails if Facebook can still access personal and private info in contacts or even access your contacts booklet. This needs to be addressed for security and privacy. An uninstall option should also be made available rather then just an on/off button. Facebook permissions on Google usually have permissions to act as account manager and toggle sync with your smartphone at any time. We do not see what these permissions are here on IOS 6 or IOS 7

^^^ I disagree. Parts are worth nothing because iPhones are difficult to take apart and labour is expense. Check out ebay, the only expensive part is the main board, which will be disabled by the activation lock. Most other parts are under $10, new from China.

Thieves won't be able to rely on the little profit from stolen iPhones for parts. They'll just have to find other phones to steal, namely Androids... until they include lojack in Android by default.

It will be interesting to see if they can get lojack to work with all of the multiple versions of Android that is available, unlike Apple that makes the upgrade fairly easy for most devices to iOS 7.
