Hey just wondering, is there any app or any way that the iphone can show how many satellites its picking up ? Im guessing if its a real GPS chip it could do this.

The iPhone won't show you this, not currently. It most certainly can, however. For instance, my magellan shows a colored box that indicates how many satellites it is currently tracking.

As Tallest Skil said, it is at least 3 or it wouldn't be working off the true GPS. That is purely math, and has nothing to do with the GPS technology though (i.e. you can't triangulate position without three points of comparison.)

Assisted-GPS means it can triangulate using as little as 2 satellites.
Remember it can use the cell towers too, so there's an extra number to the *tri*angulation process ;)

With 4 satellites it can pin point the altitude too

That's why I said wouldn't be using the true GPS. :p
