MP 1,1-5,1 GPU mac pro 2008

Sorry, is there a forum a list of all video cards supported by mac pro 2008 8 core?
I am interested to know which are the best and most powerful video cards, to make video editing with fcp7 and a mac pro 2008, I know they are old systems, but I am a nostalgic, I am 60 years old and I want to remember the old days when they used the mac pro 3.1 and fcp7, my past youth ... thanks.


Sorry I forgot to say that I intend to install on the mac pro 2008 8 cores to buy, the El Capitan operating system where fcp7 works well, so the video card must be compatible with El Capitan.

For MacPro3,1 running El Capitan 10.11:

For Nvidia:
Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 4 GB (900 series is Maxwell which includes a Titan X model that I have but I haven't tried it in my MacPro3,1; 1000 series requires Sierra 10.12; 2000 series (RTX) is not supported by macOS).

For AMD:
The AMD Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition is an old card that can work in the MacPro3,1 even though they don't say it is compatible (according to https://architosh.com/2013/05/product-review-amd-sapphire-hd-7950-mac-edition/3/ ). The 7970 is slightly better.
Newer cards like the RX580 require Sierra 10.12 or later (and a SSE4.2 emulator).

Is my understanding correct that if i wanted to upgrade my 3,1 to an RX580 and Catalina OS, the latest version of Dosdude1 patcher for Catalina includes the SSE4.2 emulator? Only downside is the RX580 will not display the Apple boot screen at startup unless i have the card flashed?

The best Nvidia card is a GTX680 as there was a Mac version & PC cards can be flashed with the same firmware so that you have a boot screen. If you are using FCP7 the GTX680 will be perfect.

They should both be compatible. The 1080 will also be compatible in macOS High Sierra with Nvidia web drivers.

Yes, that's what I meant. Legacy Mode for Windows 10 and Windows 7. EFI for Ubuntu.

But a gtx 1660 super, being of new technology, will it be compatible with a mac pro 2008 with windows 10 installed?
On the other hand, I don't think it's compatible with high sierra, am I right?

NVIDIA Turing generation of GPUs is not macOS compatible, GTX 1660 is a Turing one, not Pascal. You will only work with Windows 10 or Linux when installed on a Mac.

Works fine with NVIDIA web drivers up to 10.13.6, not supported after that in any way. It's a Maxwell generation GPU, Mojave/Catalina/Big Sur only support Kepler generation GPUs, the last one used by Apple with Macs, several iMacs/MacBook Pros had Kepler GPUs up to 2014.
