I just noticed that you cant upgrade the video card on the new imac even as a bto option, thats odd anyone know why? 😎

its an iMac. Apple will not allow the GPU to be upgraded by the user on iMac, eMac, iBook and some PowerBooks. The option for a 128Mb GPU on the top end models of the PowerBooks has only been offered as of recent revisions of the lineup. 🙂

basically, because iMac is an all in one... and it's not a gaming rig...

(yeah, i know, a pretty weak reason, but i think it's mostly true. basically, if you know enough to think the video card on the iMac is insufficient, apple would like you to buy the PowerMac instead.)

It's physically soldered on the logic board (motherboard) and therefore it's not a separate updatable card.

How could you have failed to notice that? Just about every iMac thread contains complaints about the crap, non-upgradeable GPU card in the new iMacs! 😀 😀 😛
