iPad Pro Grainy display on new iPad Pro M4?

Most don’t notice, some notice while in bed with dim lights and there are cases of people seeing it in daylight under normal coneitions.

The point is it’s apparently on all devices and its level can vary depending on manufacturing process, while it could be avoided if Apple made it clear to suppliers, as people suggest it’s actually possible to deliver oled product without it. Or if Apple came up with an answer why it has to be this way.

Naked eye, but only when in bed, at low light/brightness levels, and on grey content (like these forums). If I switch to a a website with a white background it becomes very hard to spot.

I still can’t see anything to the naked eye even if I’m reading in bed under low light and brightness, are you seeing this easily under those conditions?
 
What my iPad sees when I'm trying to look for this grain y'all speak of.

Yeah, maybe from the pictures, I don't know. I kept my M1 12.9 for about a week to compare, make sure no issues. Nothing for me, OLED had no blooming, movies looked better, text about the same to me. Now I think the old 12.9 mini LED was a great display as well. I like OLED better, but they are both very good.

Is this supposed to look like this? This is photo made with iPhone 15 pro macro of the YouTube comment section which has very dark gray, almost black background.

Are those white dots normal in oled?

I assume these pixels should be more uniform in generating grey?

The font is kind of blurry somehow too, tiresome for the eyes. You can see some illuminated neighbouring pixels around the letters which make it harder to read them.

Welcome to gray uniformity and fringing problems of new OLED iPads (and OLED displays technology in general). You will get confusing answers from people here or reddit.

The question is if/how much it bothers you. Solid gray backgrounds are messed up with this grain phenomenon.
As for fringing - it's the usual problem when subpixel structure isn't classic RGB that's been used in LCDs for years. The issue is easier to notice the worse PPI on the OLED display is. So having unique subpixel structure of iPad OLED + iPad PPI + really small font YouTube section use = the effect you describe.

This imgur gallery shows exactly the same thing -

I can only say it's very same for me and several others folks in here. And there is a vast group of people who can't notice neither of problems. 🙂

The iPhone 15s show this too, though slightly less, since iPads are big and its more noticable.

I now wonder if it is worth it to switch to 6th gen 12.9 pro. It was excellent and perfect except for the weight. M4 is so much easier to handle and the pro pencil I have yet to try out tomorrow… hm. Maybe I will wait some few days and then send back. Try another one. If it is worse I don’t know what then…

I somehow don’t want to buy last gen for the same price as current gen but if it is better…

I had the feeling the oleds will be problematic but waited couple months anyway

If you care about weight, better get a used/refurbished 2018 model.

Yeah well it’s not like we use 2000$ iPad Pros for watching Netflix or scrolling Reddit. This is a workhorse device for image manipulation. Any flaws in the screen are totally unacceptable. It is impossible to judge colors and sharpness properly with such defects. Or add grain effects to images or art.

Hence the m2 miniled is a better choice right now unless this fiasco is resolved.

It’s a disaster to release it in such state frankly.
