Couldn't agree more! DG used to have great service 10 years ago, but they've got worse and worse over the years.

I noticed their store in the IFC seems to have disappeared? Good riddance.

I live in Hong Kong. I think DG has finished its mission-journey and subject to close asap. They do not have too many stuffs to sell these days after I checked out their flagship store in Causeway Bay. Poor accessories collections. Since last years, I have changed to order Mac stuffs from OWC USA, including OWC SDD, Mac Pro RAID controllers...etc. Hong Kong is a poor Mac city. Lack of import Mac stuffs. Even Apple is now opening a Store in Hong Kong. But this Mac Store gets to be lack of something routines to sell, such as iTunes card (you know, there is no song for purchase in HK iTunes Store, ever, so there is no iTunes card). What they can sell in this Apple Stores is just Apple hardwares.

I had visited to all Apple Stores in Japan where they offer all the Apple stuffs available. So, I prefer foreigners to go Japan, not Hong Hong.

Apple Store will drag service levels into the 21st century in HK. The resellers have had it too good for too long, now they'll have to offer something more than price to compete with Apple - good service.

The Designer Group (in particular) made so much money from a captive market (especially since the iPhone 4 and iPad were released) that they forgot what built their business in the first place, treating customers as valued and treasured.

I'm so glad they are gone, ran off before the Apple Store opened.

Now we get real service. Genius bar, staff that actually know the products and are helpful, good stock levels and real support.

The Apple Store is just under my office, so I went to take a photo during the lunch hour (first floor only... the upper 2 floors are covered by glass windows)

Ironically that's how MOST foreigners think of Hong Kong locals.

Really? I think you are like the minority of ignorant expats that just like to keep to their own kind. Most expats in Hong Kong hang with locals Chinese and don't discriminate like you do.

----------

DG Lifestyle is really bad store.

They are the most dishonest reseller of Apple that I have experienced.
One time I asked for the price of an x-box game when they stocked it, and it was 3 times the retail price. I said ok, but I want it for a third, to my surprise the sales staff called the "upper management" and was able to reduce it to what I wanted. I said thanks, but I will go eslewhere. From then on i never bought from them ever again.

This is nice, but it won't increase Apple sales. It will provide a better customer experience, but I'm sure Apple products have been flying off reseller shelves for a long time in HK. At this point, I'm beginning to think more Apple Stores are a vanity project.

Exactly.

Now all we need is a local :apple: iTMS for Hong Kong.

as much as I love Apple's retail store, this place will be swarm by mainlanders (non-hong kong people coming straight from PRC), not our local Hong Kong people....

MOST of them are rude, impolite, and not very well-educated. I won't visit that store often.

See the pattern here? Try and keep up

The launch was crazy.

Line extended all the way to the Star Ferry terminal via the elevated walkway. Folks inside the IFC who camped out all night were consumed by media pack as they walked in the door.

I put a few pics up here:

I'll have a video uploaded shortly (Youtube says 'processing')

UPDATE:

Video is now up. HD quality still processing:

Excellent, thanks for the post. Friend of mine was in the general area for other reasons and said the lines were crazy (anyone for snoopy at McDonalds? :))

Apple is just losing money invested in Hong Kong. These Hong Kong people are idiot guys. They only focus on iPhone. Not the Mac. Look at the picture in the Store. Jesus crisis. They placed so many Macbook Air,Pro on the table but no one ask for it or to buy it practically. Apple is overly-invested this time in a wrong market.:(

You got all that from a couple of pictures posted on opening day?

I saw it with my own eye. I was in the HK Apple Store this morning. Nothing for sales but just the Hardwares (Mac and iPhone), and the Apple's staffs of Hong Kong (those whose dress on Blue Apple Logo T-Shirt) are just fresh meats. They have no comprehensive knowledge to the Mac. What I saw was they kept calling their senior man for help when they encountered those experienced Mac users. Jesus christ, fresh meat on the Apple table.:(

Oh plz... So people who buy macs are genius and those who only buy iPhones are idiots?

I can sort of see where Solaris (might) be coming from. I personally probably wouldn't be using the apple store in hkg for purchase, setting up or help, as it is, any problems I have usually need to get put through to enterprise support - these kids in the store are not going to be able to sort them out. Whenever I go to apple stores overseas I usually test the guys by asking them something like "how do I put the home folder on a different drive" before I bother with actual problems. Then again, I'd imagine that's the case in most apple stores - they are probably not targeting me or most of the people that come on these forums.

In some ways I'm happy there is finally a store here, I'm hoping it wil mean we won't be waiting as long for the latest items to get to us. I didn't bother getting the ipad 2 because it was only available half way through it's product cycle (I may as well wait for the next one). And iPhone 4 was not much better.

Actually, the vision of the HK guys are so narrow. They are just only capable to understand iPhone, not the Mac. Somebody even slept on the floor to wait that open. Look like the third world. They are now a big joke in the city. What a shame:(

It's the same at apple stores all over the world. Plus, hong kongers LOVE standing in lines :)
