RockStarGames announced today that they are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the release of Grand Theft Auto III with a new version to be released for both Android and iOS devices.
To commemorate the game's 10th anniversary, we're proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto III will be coming to select new generation iOS and Android devices later this fall
Only the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are amongst the confirmed iOS devices supported. Those are also the only two iOS devices that carry the more powerful A5 processor which includes a much higher performing graphics processing unit (GPU), so the limitation makes some sense.

The game will be arriving this fall, and that's about all we know so far.

I can't wait to play this again. My favorite part of those games was definitely the radio (besides of course, the actual gameplay). I do hope they do that element well :D.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I'd like them to fix San Andreas for OS X...though this is still great.

As an iPhone fan - "wow, that's awesome!"
As an playstation fan - " i played that game on my 7 years old PSP..."

Oh. My. God.

I'd really be excited if they could get San Andreas on iOS (with the original soundtrack).

How did you play a PS2 game on the PSP? Also, I hope this means we'll see Vice City, San Andreas, and Bully on the iPhone & iPad!

I said 7 years old PSP, not 7 years old game. GTA 3 for PSP was released n November 2005 (6 years ago).

playing that on a touchscreen is going to be a nightmare

maybe on the ipad it can be pulled off but not on a 3.5 inch screen

AirPlay Mirroring. The iphone 4s could more or less be used as the controller while the main show is on your TV. (If Rockstar designs it this way, though hard to see why they wouldn't.)

Games like this are interesting on the iPad for a few minutes until you realize how awkward it is to play it with the iPad's controls.

why?

As great as GTA III was back in the day why on Earth would I want to play it again now 7+ years later on a 3.5" touchscreen display?!

Yeah, I really want to play San Andreas on my mac mini, but reading the reviews about it how it runs, has put me off getting it. I'v been checking the app store every day, hoping to see it's been updated. :(

I Bought Vice City from the Mac App. store when it came out.. It took me back, I wasn't aware I could miss a video game so much. I can't wait for them to release this AND Vice City for iDevices.
