Hey guys,

I'm studying Architecture and have been asked to research graphic design with relevance to book and magazine layouts (think anything that's book/booklet like that predominantly displays images).

What do you reckon are the best examples graphic design principles in such layouts?

Are you looking for books on book design in particular? If so, then here are a couple I haven't read but they're either by well-regarded authors (in the case of Bringhurst or Haslam) or publishers (in the case of Rockport)

are you looking for books about publication + book design, or are you looking for examples of good publication and book design?

either way, google:

Massimo Vignelli
Josef Müeller-Brockman
Chip Kidd
Martin Venezky
Jan Tschichold
Tibor Kalman

Thanks guys :) Those are fantastic leads.

Basically, I'm trying to get a feel for good graphic design in relation to page layouts (as all of my work is presented as such). So that means looking at masters (or excellent pieces) and learning the essential basics.

i would also look at some of the Graphis design annuals. if you are near any good design school their library should have them. (mine did).
