Graphic switching glitches safari

I'm having issues with glitches happening in safari while watching Netflix in full screen. I looked it up and it seems common to the dual gpu MacBooks. I have a 2015 "15 r9 MacBook Pro. Does keeping it on the r9 gpu all the time really make that much of a difference to the battery life if your just watching Netflix or YouTube? Why does this only happen in safari?

Edit: Also I've been trying to see if the r9 370x has the same issues as the nvida ones dying and found nothing. Are the r9's reliable?
